New sliding gate motor

Featured Replies

I'm in the market for a new sliding gate motor. The motor I have is still working, but since the "stop" is with a spring that often fails, which as a result causes the gate not to close automatically, I thought better to get a new one while they are cheap.

I see on the online stores that BSM is quite popular, so I decided on that one, but suddenly the 1500kg version is sold out everywhere.

Next I found on Lazada de BSIVI brand, which is obviously a knock off from BSM, but it gets plenty of great reviews, and it even has a 2000kg version.

https://www.lazada.co.th//products/i4067909235-s20888456303.html?

Tried a search for reliability of the brand, but the only results I get are from Lazada and Shopee listings.

So does anyone here has any experience with BSIVI gate motors?

My information source - The BIL does occasional repair work for BLT Associates a well known automatic gate installer in Bangkok.

BSM,BSIVI,KING,M-TEC motors stamped Italy Standard or Italy Quality or just Italy are often made in China or Taiwan. They do this because Italy is well known for manufacturing reliable gate motors. A real Italian gate motor like DEA will cost upwards of 20K Baht in Thailand.

That's not saying these Brand X motors are junk, many of them work perfectly well, especially for normal household use. Replacement control boards are cheap and readily available for most of these Brand X motors.

I personally would go for one of these cheap motors on a house gate.

Thanks I was well aware that they are all China product, but I'm not sure if it is the same quality as BSM.

AI tells me that there might quite be a difference in the quality of the materials used in those gate motors. Like plastic gears instead of steel gears.

From BSM I can find a website of the official importer and also from dealers. From BSIVI I can't find anything. I also notice that BSIVI, although it looks identical, is about 20% cheaper than like for like in BSM, and that made me worry.

The Lazada listing I posted has plenty of good reviews, but of course 1 month after the purchase no review can be posted any more.

The BIL is suggesting all cheap motors like BSM use a steel pinion on the motor driving a nylon output gear but its not to say there are low end motors that employ all steel gears. Finding out which might be a challenge.

How much of a disadvantage are plastic gears in a gate motor drive when the motor is only used once or twice a day or even less. 20K Baht will guarantee steel gears 5K Baht gets you a motor that might last many years.

So does your BIL think that the BSIVI motor, although 20% cheaper than the same thing from the BSM brand, will be comparable?
