A break-in at an upscale housing estate on Ratchaphruek Road has left the homeowner reporting losses of more than 7.5 million baht after a thief forced open a safe and escaped with luxury watches and cash. The burglary occurred on the night of 5 December at House No. 9/222 in the Ladawan estate, Bang Ramat, Taling Chan district. Police from Taling Chan Station say an investigation is under way, with officers gathering evidence to track down the suspect.

Police received the report at 22.55 on 5 December from Pol Lt Amornphong Tuita, Deputy Inspector (Investigation) at Taling Chan Police Station. Investigators attended the property alongside local detectives to inspect the scene. At the house, owner Thananan Leethanasuk told officers she had rented the property to a Chinese friend, who had left the house at 16:30 and returned at 21:00 to find the second-floor safe prised open.

Inside the safe were several high-value items, including a Patek Philippe watch worth around 1.5 million baht and a Jaeger-LeCoultre watch valued at about 400,000 baht. The tenant also reported missing cash totalling approximately 5.6 million baht. Combined, the stolen property amounts to about 7.5 million baht.

Daily News reported that police documented the scene and recorded the victim’s statement as part of the initial inquiry. Officers say further evidence, including witness accounts, CCTV and forensic findings. They have pledged to pursue all leads as they work to identify and arrest the perpetrator.

Key Takeaways

• A safe at a luxury home in Taling Chan was forced open on 5 December, with luxury watches and cash worth more than 7.5 million baht stolen.

• The tenant discovered the theft after leaving the house for several hours and notified police immediately.

• Investigators are gathering evidence and will pursue additional charges if new information emerges.

Chinese person flashing wealth, maybe even an inside job....knowing where items were stashed or lucky break-in ?

He may have told too many people what he had,all locked up in a safe. Not a smart move and now they are gone

No mention of a forced entry, so did he leave a window open/unlocked ? I guess it must have been a cat burglar, that went up the tree 😀 but it does smell fishy to me aka an insurance scam......:coffee1:

Not sure it's a great idea to dox the place where a burglar is likely to find some expensive goodies once the safe has been restocked.

It doesn't really give me much faith in the security of a safe?

The obvious questions are was the safe in a hidden location? How secure was it to be forced open so easily? And how many people knew what was in it?
It doesn’t strike me as being done by a chancer, looks more like an insider job.

Sometimes it pays to be discreet than flash  what you’ve got and where you keep in front of family or friends.

Rental house = cheap hotel style safe.  Crowbar + mallet can easily be used together to bend the door and pry it open.

Where does Prawit live? Waddya bet this guy was short of cash. He went out with his 2G phone to find out what time it was.

It was the Thai homeowner's property that was stolen, not the Chinese tenant's.

The stolen items belonged to the homeowner, a she, not a"she"

Nothing whatsoever suggested an insurance scam.
