A 76-year-old Thai woman was found murdered in her home in Trat province, with over 120,000 baht in gold jewelry missing. The victim, referred to as A, was discovered by family members after concerns arose when she did not answer her phone on December 11. Her daughter, typically in daily contact from Bangkok, prompted relatives to visit the home around 1pm, leading to the grim discovery.

The police, informed by the relatives, arrived at the single-storey house in Laem Ngop district to find the woman's body. An initial examination showed bruises and red marks on her neck and face, and bloodstains on the floor suggested a violent altercation. A, who lived alone, regularly wore a gold necklace and bracelet, both of which were missing from the scene.

Attention in the murder investigation turned to a local man identified only as B, known for borrowing money from the victim. Neighbors noted B's swift disappearance after the incident, fueling suspicions. In response, the police have questioned B's wife, suspecting that the murder may have involved strangulation with a rope or cloth before the theft.

Authorities are intensifying efforts to locate B, while further investigation details remain undisclosed. Meanwhile, the murder echoes a similar case from May, where an 89-year-old woman in Nakhon Si Thammarat was murdered by her motorcycle taxi rider to steal valuables worth around 260,000 baht. Both crimes involved suspects familiar with the victims and centered around theft, reported The Thaiger.

Key Takeaways

  • A 76-year-old woman was killed, and her gold jewelry was stolen.
  • Police suspect and are seeking a local man known to the victim.
