Tariffs aren't working

Featured Replies

So what is the magic number where a tariff goes from good to where it becomes a tax on Americans? 1% 5% 10% 25%? All sounds very mysterious🤣

It's not so much about the rate as the reason why the tariff is being imposed. They're valid when they're being used to protect a nascent industry. The amount of the tariff should be enough to protect that industry for a limited period of time. But it's nuts to be targeting the entire world.

  • Just last week the man who knows more about tariffs than anyone told us his tariffs are already bringing in "trillions of dollars.....so much that you won't have to pay income taxes anymore". Yes, eve

  • I can't speak for spidermike but I was pretty much I always am. Biden's tariffs were limited and targeted. Trump is pretty much spraying shrapnel.

Absolutely correct and Trump is starting to pay the price for his ridiculous tariffs. This man probably has less understanding of globalization and the inherent ecosystems within it, than most leaders

As noted before. Biden's tariffs were targeted in a limited way at China. Trump has targeted everyone including China.

But surely China is happy Americans are taxing themselves? Biden = small tax on America = China happy. Trump = big tariff tax on Americans = China hopping mad. How can this be?

Theres obviously a fallacy in the equation. Im going to guess its that tariffs are just a tax on Americans.

Nice try. What you posted is a flat out lie.

Ps....that screen shot is from a meeting that happened years ago.

Yes, the meeting happened years ago, but so what? He's not exactly aging like a fine wine, is he?

Trump said:

“The United States and Italy are bound together by a shared cultural and political heritage dating back thousands of years, to ancient Rome …”

This is undisputed and noted in the link you provided. Do you want me to provide you with a link to Trump talking about the airports that existed during the Civil War?

Excellent point showing who you really are. I totally agree with your assessment.

Oh no! You know who I really am? In that case, who could you really be but Lex Luthor. Anyway, I got to get back to the fortress of solitude to watch Pluribus in 4D. Catch you later! And I do mean catch you.

China is so hopping mad that it's exports have already exceeded 1 trillion dollars which is a record over any previous entire year. And 2025 isn't even finished yet. They're growling all the way to the bank.

No, it's not mysterious at all, as you well know. President Biden's very narrow and targeted tariffs that enjoyed broad bipartisan support, versus Trump's idiotic shoot from the hip tariff TACO s**t show.

Apples and oranges, Sunny, and this has been pointed out on sooooo many occasions, but since you have nothing you just revert to the same lame diversions, again and again. Must be tiring, buddy!

Now you're being silly. Everybody knows that The Hive exists in an alternative universe where Superman is not nearly so cool.

Now I see what you're up to. You're just trying to cop a cheap feel. I'll have you know that I'm not that kind of superhero. Surely there must be some fellow super villain out there who can satisfy your needs.

I think the tariffs are doing exactly what he intended them to do... destabilize the American economy, alienate America's allies, and divide the American people.
Seems to be doing just that.

Trump has a big experience concerning bankruptcy - 6x

Because he is handling his job of a POTUS like that of his former private (bankrupt) companies it's not surprising that the US has some economic hassle..

It's not only a Trump problem, but the stupidity of his REP-voters.

iRobot, US robot vacuums company has just declared bankruptcy after suffering 23 million USD additional tariffs on their products made for the US market in Vietnam, from 46% tariffs on them.

But no worries. The brand will live on. Company is being taken over by their largest global manufacturer, Picea Robotics... Headquartered in Shenzhen, China.

So much winning!

he did try to address the nation but the only thing he accomplished was to crate more turmoil and misunderstandings, he just wasted 20 minutes and said nothing

But the hastily delivered 20-minute speech, which sounded like much of his standard bluster on Truth Social, his social media platform, left many people on both sides of the aisle scratching their heads.

Oh Yeah? Well where were you when Biden did tariffs, huh?

What-aboutzisim doesn't work although your screen name is appropriate. Biden or normal tariffs have no relationship to the disastrous cluster f trump created, with the full impact still to come.

Trump's shenanigans have also cost Nvidia, one of the world's richest companies, to lose their biggest customer (China), who bought 95% of their chips. They now buy zero.

Now Trump has realised his mistake, about turned, and said they can buy Nvidia's H200 chips. Trouble is, China no longer wants them. They want their companies to reduce their reliance on US technology. Instead aiming to become self sufficient in chip design and manufacture.

Along with just about every other country.

Looking elsewhere to purchase goods and services once happily bought from US. Once you lose your customers like that it won't be a walk in to get them back, if ever.
