US trade clash with Canada risks major damage to the US economy

Featured Replies

Canada is not just any trading partner — it is America’s second-largest export market and one of its most deeply integrated economic allies. The two nations share supply chains across virtually every major sector, from agriculture and manufacturing to automotive production, energy and advanced technology.

That deep integration means tariffs between the countries don’t just target foreign producers — they also disrupt American companies reliant on Canadian parts, materials and labour.

Economists warn that Trump’s new tariffs could trigger:

Increased prices for US consumers

Layoffs in American manufacturing

Delays for industries dependent on cross-border components

Rising costs for construction, energy and transport sectors

While Canada will feel the immediate strain, experts say it is structurally better positioned to adapt. The country has been diversifying its trade relationships for years, forging deeper links with Europe and Asia through agreements like CETA and CPTPP.

These relationships allow Canada to redirect exports and reduce reliance on the US market over time. The U.S., however, relies heavily on cheap Canadian materials — including lumber, steel, energy and agricultural goods — making substitution difficult.

It is. Every American that's not a member of the cult of stupid must look north across the border and think, "why didn't we get that guy as President instead of the.....thing that is there now".

Let's face it. Canada has been provoking the United States for years with the longest undefended border between two nations in the world. It's about time that America struck back!
