December 16, 2025Dec 16 Photo courtesy of Bangkok Post Thailand's Former People’s Party MP Jirat Thongsuwan received a two-year prison sentence on Tuesday with no suspension for using forged documents to avoid military service. His lawyer has submitted a bail request pending appeal, though it remains under court consideration. This conviction stems from allegations regarding his forged Sor Dor 43 certificate presented as proof of exemption. The case originated in early 2024 when suspicions about the document’s authenticity arose following its display on "The Politics" TV program and social media. The Thai Army initiated an investigation led by Lt Gen Taweepool Rimsakorn. Despite Jirat's denials, the court found he repeatedly deferred conscription between 2009 and 2012, resulting in prior legal issues. The court criticized Jirat for failing to provide an original exemption certificate and ruled that his actions damaged the Ministry of Defence and national security. The court cited breaches of the Computer Crime Act, imposing the maximum sentence based on evidence provided by six army officers. Although Jirat was confident in his defense, claiming the prosecutors lacked explanation for the forgery, the court ruled against him. Jirat faced scrutiny since his initial election in Chachoengsao in 2019 and re-election in 2023. A member of the House Military Committee, he had previously engaged in military reform discussions. He argues the case is politically motivated, questioning the handling of his records compared to others and suggesting political biases due to his parliamentary actions, reported Bangkok Post. Key Takeaways Jirat Thongsuwan received a two-year prison sentence for document forgery. The court emphasized his failure to produce an authentic exemption certificate. December 16, 2025Dec 16 How many conscripts don't even show up if they must go.... and nothing is happening with them. But this is an MP who is a member of a party that has plans to reform the army and he must be jailed for a forged paper and for 2 years.... Sadly that mr Thaksin has done much more fake things and he only got 1 year jail, but of course he is so called a friend of the elite and army and therefor he is protected
