Three Vietnamese men were taken into custody after police raided an illegal cannabis farm in a Bangkok warehouse. The operation, conducted on December 17, involved officers from the Crime Suppression Division and the Department of Thai Traditional and Alternative Medicine.

The raid was initiated following a complaint from a local resident who noticed a strong odour of cannabis emanating from the warehouse. This led authorities to investigate the site, obtain a search warrant from the Thonburi Criminal Court, and execute the search.

Inside the warehouse, officers found Nguyen Duc Anh, 28, Do Van Bay, 27, and Dang Sy Tai, 35. The suspects admitted to cultivating cannabis without a legal licence. Police seized 1,685 cannabis plants, estimated at a total value of 1.7 million Thai baht, with each plant contributing around 100 grammes of dried cannabis flower.

Authorities charged the men with violating Section 46 of the Thai Traditional Medical Knowledge Protection and Promotion Act. This law forbids unapproved study, sale, or processing of controlled herbs like cannabis. Those found guilty face up to one year in prison, a fine of 20,000 baht, or both.

Similar charges led to the arrest of a Vietnamese individual in January. In that case, the suspect stated that a Thai man employed him for 20,000 baht a month to oversee the plants. No additional information has emerged concerning the Thai individual in the prior case, reported The Thaiger.

The odor from just one plant is strong enough to be noticeable from a distance of only a meter or two.  It is unmistakable that it's cannabis.

Later on that day the same police department ran an ad buy one plant get one plant free in the spirit of Christmas celebrations TIT

fans will be fitted and you wont hear any more from the perps who operated the factory, they would get 10 years in NZ not a slap on the wrist one year here for a major growing factory.

Some serious money behind that operation.

Wait, farming in Thailand requires a license??? The Vietnamese, of course, have no work permits. Bet they wouldn't try this in Vietnam!

Live plants have a very strong aroma...    can't imagine the electric bill and chemical deliveries, not to mention foreign workers (no work permits) had anything to do with it

Wow, are you ever living in the dark. Everybody, everywhere, loves dope! Umm, remember America's war on Vietnam? Grass is a traditional cooking as well as medicinal herb. Sheesh!

Lining in the dark    ? what are you talking about ?

If you spent a bit of time reading the threads on this forum you would know that not everybody everywhere loves dope, there  are still many, who are tainted with reefer madness here.

I have no Idea what the vietnam war has to do with anything , it was not akin to the opium wars, and they were not fighting over cannabis

Furthermore whilst cannabis may well be used in traditional cooking, that hardly creates the same demand as Thailand's cannabis tourism.

The reasons why they grow it here are pretty simple to understand , even for people as badly informed as myself

"Sheesh" ?   I believe that is a kind of tobacco, not used in cooking nor grown here by  the Vietnamese

our internet suddenly went whacky  when  NOT showed up they traced the wiring down and found the wire hijacked and running to another house

new wires run and now at least 8 meters up the utility poles.....  that other family no longer lives there....

I mentioned the war on Vietnam because the Vietnamese grew such great dope soldiers often smuggled it home.

You're right, there are some (a lot, maybe) anti-cannabis OPs here. But I challenge them to keep track of news articles so we can chart exactly what kinds of crimes are committed under the influence of cannabis. Anecdotal, yes, but should provide a somewhat more accurate picture. Don't bother with alcohol crimes, you'll drown in it!

Just as Amsterdam has far more to offer tourists than its coffee shops, you may have noticed so does Thailand. Dope is not the sole reason tourists come here but it is definitely an enjoyable add-on. "Honey, should we vacation in a death penalty country this year?"

I would hope my Sheesh is better compared with hashish...and exasperation at antiquated attitudes.

Dude, the war on drugs is so over!
