A 64-year-old man has died after falling into a six-metre-deep borehole at his home in Lampang province, prompting a police and rescue response and leaving his family devastated. The incident occurred at a private residence in Ban Pong Khwak, Mae San subdistrict, Hang Chat district and was reported to authorities shortly after it happened. Emergency services confirmed the man was found deceased at the bottom of the borehole.

The incident took place at around 8.45am on 17 December 2025, when police and rescue workers were alerted to a report of a person falling into a borehole within a residential compound. The borehole, approximately six metres deep, was located inside the property and had a narrow opening. Upon arrival, responders found the body of a Thai man, aged 64 and identified as the homeowner, lodged headfirst at the bottom of the well.

Rescue personnel faced significant challenges in recovering the body due to the depth of the borehole and its restricted opening. A pulley and rope rescue system was deployed by a specialist rescue team to carefully retrieve the deceased. The recovery operation was described as difficult and time-consuming, but was completed without further incident.

Preliminary investigations were carried out at the scene by police officers alongside a medical examiner. An initial post-mortem examination found no signs of assault or injuries indicative of homicide. Authorities stated there were no suspicious circumstances surrounding the death.

Investigators believe the man had been sitting near the mouth of the borehole, as he was known to do regularly. It is suspected that he may have become dizzy or lost his balance, causing him to fall into the borehole. This assessment was based on the physical evidence at the scene and the absence of any indication of foul play.

Police confirmed that the deceased’s relatives did not raise any concerns regarding the cause of death. As a result, no further forensic examination was deemed necessary at this stage. The case was treated as an accidental death.

Following the completion of official procedures, the body was released to the family. Relatives have taken responsibility for arranging religious funeral rites in accordance with local customs. Authorities concluded their involvement after ensuring all legal and investigative requirements had been met.

Sometimes I sit on the edge of my 6 metre bore hole to pass the time.

The less said about this regrettable accident the better.

Any number of foolish things could have precipitated it.

"Darwin Awards" are usually bestowed posthumously, as would be the case with this hapless man.

Rest in peace.

The relatives shouldn't be the ones who make that decision .

Who can say that they were not responsible ?

Agreed.

The relatives shouldn't be the ones to put a stop to any further investigation.

As for credibility, a lot depends on what kind of a family the cops are dealing with.

Are they a decent lot, respected in the community?

Or are they low life scum, known for fighting among themselves?

Either way, going headfirst down a well doesn't sound like one of the better ways to leave this world.

R.I.P.
