A motorcyclist was killed instantly after losing control and crossing into the opposite lane before colliding head-on with a soil lorry in Trat province on the evening of 18 December. The impact dragged the rider’s motorcycle for more than 50 metres, leaving the victim dead at the scene and causing significant disruption on the local road.

The fatal crash occurred at about 5pm on the Rai Pa–Dan Chumphon road in Ban Phrong Takhe, Noen Sai subdistrict, Mueang district, Trat. Police identified the deceased as Mr Phongphan, aged 53. Officers from Mueang Trat police station, along with a duty doctor from Trat Hospital and volunteers from the Sawang Boon Chuay rescue foundation, attended the scene after receiving the report.

According to the preliminary investigation led by Pol Lt Thuriphon Phumipanya Worakul, the motorcyclist appeared to lose control of his bike and veer across the centre line into the lane of the oncoming six-wheel soil lorry. A vehicle travelling behind the lorry recorded the entire incident on video, showing the motorcycle entering the lorry’s lane before the head-on collision. The force of the impact caused the motorcycle to be dragged approximately 55 metres from the point of collision.

At the scene, the soil lorry was found parked at the roadside, while Mr Phongphan’s body was discovered beneath the rear of the vehicle, having been run over and dragged by the rear wheels. His motorcycle was found further down the road, badly damaged. Emergency responders confirmed that the rider had died at the scene due to the severity of his injuries.

Police said the video evidence would form a key part of the ongoing investigation to establish the exact cause of the loss of control. Officers are continuing to collect evidence from the scene and will review statements from the lorry driver and other witnesses to complete the case file.

The body of the deceased was transferred for further handling in accordance with legal procedures. Authorities reiterated the importance of caution on rural roads, particularly where opposing traffic shares narrow lanes. Matichon reported that Investigators are expected to finalise their findings after completing a full review of the video footage and forensic evidence. Further legal steps will proceed once the investigation is concluded.
