A 63-year-old woman was killed in a collision between a car and a motorcycle at a traffic light junction in Sattahip, Chonburi, on the morning of 23 December 2025. The crash occurred at approximately 10.40am at the kilometre 1 traffic light intersection, in Sattahip subdistrict, causing traffic disruption while emergency services responded and police conducted initial investigations.

Police Lieutenant Junior Grade Nawathon Phuwaseththaworn, a deputy investigation officer at Sattahip Police Station, received the report and attended the scene. He was joined by emergency medical staff from Somdet Phra Nang Chao Sirikit Hospital, Royal Thai Navy Medical Department and rescue workers from the Sawang Rojanathammasathan Foundation. On arrival, responders found the injured motorcyclist lying unconscious in the middle of the road.

The victim was later identified as Mrs Phrao, aged 63. Emergency responders attempted to revive her by performing cardiopulmonary resuscitation and using an automated external defibrillator, but these efforts were unsuccessful. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Nearby, officers found a red Honda Scoopy motorcycle, registration from Chonburi, damaged. Approximately 50 metres away, a white Honda Civic car, registration from Bangkok, was found with damage to its front end. The driver of the car, Mr Trairong, aged 25, remained at the scene and provided an initial statement to police.

Mr Trairong told investigators that he had been driving straight through the junction when the traffic signal was green in his direction. He stated that the motorcycle suddenly made a U-turn across his path, leaving him unable to brake in time and resulting in a forceful impact.

Police reviewed closed-circuit television footage from the area as part of their preliminary inquiry. According to officers, the footage showed the motorcycle emerging and making a sudden U-turn in front of the oncoming car, leading directly to the collision and the rider’s death. The findings were consistent with the driver’s initial account.

Sattahip News reported that despite this, police said the investigation is ongoing. Officers plan to formally question the car driver in more detail as part of standard legal procedures before determining any further action under the law.

It blows my mind how I DAILY see motorcyclists turning at a corner without even a GLANCE at oncoming traffic.

Well I watched a car pull into the path of a motorcycle (that had right of way) just the other day. There is a tendency not to worry about what is behind in the Thai driving style.... only be aware of what is in front.  It is terribly dangerous and seems to be getting worse.

Car was going way too fast, speeding through the red most likely

Possibly.

On the other hand: one motorcycle standing still while she moves into the intersection.

Looks like the usual impatience to wait for green. If that is combined with the lack of checking traffic the outcome is like shown.

Two culprits meet on the middle of the road.

Isn't there another motorbike passing after the car?

In Pattaya and Sattahip i see cars flooring it through red lights every lights every day, possibly the bike didn't see the car because it was further away

I see this kind of thing every day on my rides and I wonder what the hell the person was thinking.  A huge problem is motorbikes flying out of side streets without even looking, much less slowing down.  A guy did that to me yesterday near Sattahip and nearly shat himself when I softly said "sawasdee khrap " into his right ear. Yes, he got that close.

Some might be inclined to mutter 'som nam na' about this lady, but she was most likely someone's mother and grandmother.  Those poor people have to deal with the loss and know this video is out there, forever.
