Drones

Featured Replies

I recently completed a trip. I had camera equipment in my carry on.

As I was leaving Thailand, I was asked whether I had a drone, and they looked at my camera at security.

In Almaty, I was asked if I had a drone, but no further inspection.

In Tashkent, I was asked if I had a drone and my camera was inspected.

In Baku, my luggage came off flagged and was xrayed at customs. I was asked if I had a drone, I said no, and they just let me go saying "its OK, you are from USA".

It would be my advice to travelers to check the drone rules of a specific country before traveling, even transiting.

Possibly just concerned about the type & size of battery you may have had, if having a drone.

Most drone batteries have no more mAh than smartphones (~6000mAh), though may have higher voltage, 8.2v, 12.4v when fully charged, vs 3.7 / 4.2v of standard smartphone.

Well I was told in Tashkent that drones are not permitted and they did inspect my camera battery packs.

I was also told by a dude from the Embassy in Tashkent that the authorities were ramping up security for Christmas (in a secular Muslim country).

Regardless, it makes sense to check. Just an FYI

So you weren't just transiting through, actually staying there.   Just peeked, technically illegal just transiting through with a drone :w00t:

Well technically a transit since Yanks can get three days without a Visa. Next year is Visa free for 30 days. Very cool place.
