The Narcotics Suppression Police have arrested two individuals linked to a staggering 20 billion baht drug money laundering scheme involving a People's Party MP candidate in Bangkok. The suspects ran a front transport company, and their arrest came during a large-scale operation targeting drug networks.

On 29 December 2025, the Narcotics Suppression Bureau (NSB) carried out Operation Black Mirror TKP, raiding 22 locations across various provinces, including Bangkok and Nonthaburi. With more than 120 officers involved, this significant operation aimed to dismantle an extensive drug trafficking network. Among those apprehended in a luxury residence in Bangkok were a Thai man and his Laotian wife, both wanted for money laundering and drug-related charges.

The operation follows a previous arrest in February, where links to multiple drug cases were identified. Investigations revealed four transport companies serving as fronts for laundering drug money. These businesses, which conducted minimal legitimate operations, handled over 20 billion baht through various bank accounts. The authorities traced a significant amount of cash in monthly transactions to drug proceeds.

Authorities executed further raids based on the financial trails uncovered, implicating a People's Party MP candidate. The couple confessed to funding the politician, leading to an arrest warrant for the MP candidate. The Narcotics Suppression Police have arrested this individual, Mr. Boonrit Raorungrot, and he is currently held for questioning.

Pol. Gen. Samran Nualma highlighted ongoing searches and evidence collection across the involved locations. This crackdown aligns with directives to combat drug trafficking and associated money laundering activities. The operation aims to dismantle the financial infrastructure supporting drug networks and involves collaboration with the Anti-Money Laundering Office.

As investigations continue, the police will interrogate the suspects, with a press conference scheduled for later today. The People's Party has addressed the situation, issuing a statement regarding the involvement of their candidate.

Key Takeaways:

  • Two suspects arrested are linked to 20 billion baht laundering scheme.
  • A candidate from the People's Party has been charged with money laundering.
  • Ongoing raids are part of a major drug crackdown across multiple provinces.

Maybe they should search another one too ... he has a convicting in Australia and is still not trustable. In the story it is not said he has something to do with it only that the couple supported the MP candidate.. I think that all supporters of all party candidates must be investigated as a lot money comes from corruption, drugs and illegal businesses.

I don't think this is political, 20 billion in drug related crime needs to be stopped...

Well, correct me if I'm wrong but the sitting caretaking government (apparently voted into office initially and now caretaking due to dissolving the parliament) has one deputy prime minister who is blessed with wonders taking place.

His luggage contained holy flour which converted itself into some less-than-legal substance for which he got thrown into an Australian slammer for four years. The incident was considered irrelevant for the local authorities here as it happened outside Thailand and his (then) boss Prawatch whisked the case away by stating, that one has "to look forward".

So the present case refers to arrested individuals claiming funding of a political candidate. Claimed, not accused nor convicted and, noteworthy, a political candidate of a party which is rather "disliked" by the dinosaur establishment run by the oligarch elite.

In closing, the political party in question confirmed in a press conference, that the party and its leaders had/have no knowledge of possible wrong-doing but the gentleman in question, Mr Boonyarit Raorungrot, has swiftly been replaced yesterday already with apologies of the party leadership for its unwilling ignorance in this matter.

Sadly no need - have a coup and install a military Junta!

Or shared?

This article sets out why Thailand will always be a 3rd World Country.  Corruption and crime all the way to the very top.

Depends on the recipient.

Another gratuitous slur on Thailand, which is not a third-world country.  What have you got against the country in which you chose to live?

"Corruption and crime all the way to the very top".

Just like so many other countries, including yours.

Oh dear. Years of flour smuggling is recorded throughout history.

Get a life Lou.

And yours, no doubt.

What is your point, apart from scoring some gratuitous points?

That nobody cares about.

Obviously, yes, but I wasn't making malicious assertions about Thailand.

So what?  By definition, smuggling is illegal.  Get some edification.

Yes, it is.

Nothing.  I love it here.  I just chose to pay as I go.  Rent, not buy.  I have nothing I can't leave behind and head straight to the airport, should I want to, or need to.

It's people such as yourself that feel secure here that feel the need to justify your "investment" in Thailand to those that know better that makes me laugh.

That retirement visa / extension is nothing more than a 12 month tourist visa.

No.  Don't kid yourself, falang.  :cheesy:

20 billion Baht is a lot of cash. Assume if it was actually drug money it would be paper cash. Now, using transport companies to launder that amount of cash could be a problem. It wasn't stated what type of transport the companies were supposing to offer.

What was the statement?

Or just let lingering doubt prevail through guilt by association to damage People's Party.
