Where to stay Close to Nightlife :-)

Featured Replies

Hi folks!
I’ll be rolling into Chiang Mai mid-January as part of a solo motorbike road trip (one rider, one bike, questionable life choices). Looking for some local wisdom on where to stay — ideally a nice hotel (not a Cheap Charlie crash pad, but also not “sell a kidney” luxury).

Bonus points if it’s within easy walking distance to the Bars & nightlife, and more importantly, within a slightly wobbly but achievable staggering distance back to the hotel.

Also keen on bar recommendations — more “sit, sip, and watch the world go by” than full-throttle party animal. Age has kindly informed me that recovery time is no longer measured in hours… 😅

Cheers in advance!

Not sure you will find very much "nightlife" .   Near Tapae Gate and all around the moat

area there is some..... not sure the type you want :

I like the Raming Lodge on Loi Kroh Rd

Yes.... good choice .    Loi Kroh is what is referred to as the bar area .   Be prepared..... for disappointment .    Hey,   ya never know 😉

Not far away , across the moat ,  is a bar/restaurant (not girlie bar) called Mad Dog .  Been there for longggg time (yes, fellow posters, it had a fire last year) .   Rebuilt and more open now .  Some hate it..... but imo pizza and farang food at reasonable prices and good quality .     Staff is same as twenty years ago , but a little tamer .

Good suggestion by @Real Name Hidden. Otherwise may want to look at Duangtawan Hotel which is also on Loy Kroh Road near the Night Bazaar. On Loy Kroh Road is the bar complex. A good choice for people watching is Hang Out bar which is at the front of the complex on Loy Kroh Road. It's a bit more relaxed and a little less pushy than a lot of the other bars within that complex.

Riverside Hotel is a lovely place to stay. Very friendly staff, quiet, nice pool and reasonably priced (around 1,000-1,300 per night based on room type). Right on the Ping river just the other side of the Iron bridge. Less than 10 minutes stroll to the area mentioned above.

Enjoy your visit.

I don’t Ming Luck Thai Hotel. Can park your bike out front of hotel. Easy walking form Loy Kroger road bars, massage shops etc.

Spelling mistake. I don’t mind the Luck Thai hotel

Bars are crap there. The Old City is the best spot.
