Pompeo says Putin conceded nothing in Ukraine peace talks so far

Former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo says Russian President Vladimir Putin has “conceded literally nothing” in negotiations aimed at ending the war in Ukraine. Speaking on Fox & Friends, Pompeo said reports that a 20-point peace framework is 90 percent agreed are misleading if the remaining issues involve territory and security guarantees Moscow will not accept.

Pompeo argued that Putin remains focused on land and on keeping European forces away from Russia’s borders — conditions he believes amount to “poison pill” demands. His remarks followed comments from Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, who said talks between Ukrainian and American negotiators at President Donald Trump’s Mar-a-Lago estate had produced significant progress.

Zelensky said the two sides were “90 percent agreed” on a peace plan, with Trump confirming that land remains the toughest unresolved question. Trump suggested some territory may be “up for grabs,” adding that Kyiv might be better off making a deal sooner rather than later as the military situation continues to shift.

Putin, however, has insisted he will keep fighting unless Ukraine withdraws from all regions Russia claims to have annexed — a position that would require Kyiv to surrender internationally recognised Ukrainian territory. Pompeo suggested that if that remains Moscow’s red line, optimism about a near-term peace deal may be premature.

The Russian president has long pursued control over strategic regions in eastern and southern Ukraine, while Western leaders warn that any settlement rewarding territorial conquest could set a dangerous precedent.

For now, negotiations continue, but with the core dispute over land still unresolved — and neither side signalling a willingness to back down — the path to a final agreement remains uncertain.

Key Takeaways

  • Pompeo says Putin has “conceded literally nothing” in peace talks

  • Zelensky claims 90% of a 20-point plan is agreed after Mar-a-Lago talks

  • Disputes over land and security guarantees remain the main obstacles

Obviously.

Zelinskyy's claim is about the agreement between Ukraine and Trump on what to present to Putin.

Again, Putin has zero interest in peace.

For that to ever happen, he's going to need to be FORCED into being interested.

Trump being Putin's poodle, is doing the opposite.

Remind me again what the allied powers conceded to Japan during 'negotiations' on the deck of the Missouri.

If you're saying that Russia has "won" this war militarily, you are wrong, so your analogy is completely irrelevant.

That said, the allies didn't wish to permanently erase Japan as a sovereign nation, as Putin's intends to do to Ukraine if he ever can.

Why doesn't Zelensky present 'his' proposals directly to Putin....

who's the poodle ?

Putin won't meet with Zelinskyy and accuses him of not being a legit leader.

Do you not follow the news?!?

Correction -- Putin will accept a SURRENDER from him though.

The man is simply speaking honestly and telling it like he sees it, Putin has conceded nothing, will concede nothing meaningful, and no amount of (UHPTN) "unskilled and highly partial Trump negotiations" will make any difference whatsoever.

Don't you remember when he tried that with Trump & JD...............😆

Nato/Ukraine: We're being bombed, killed and beaten all along the front. Therefore we demand the following concessions for hostilities to stop.  And here's a 28-point list of demands you need to meet or we'll surrender and your troops will looks stupid with nothing to shoot at.

Russia: Zis very confusing.

Well he is no longer the legit leader after failing to call elections

(Do you not follow the news?!?)

but is now willing to call a referendum on land concessions in a theoretical  peace deal..and yes I'm sure Putin will accept total surrender..and if not just continue to push westwards until his satisfaction.

Why should he?  Russia is winning militarily on the ground.

That's just silly, or are you in the "Putin wants to reform the soviet onion and conquer the world" fantasy universe?

I'm in the face reality space --

Putin is already at war with the west using methods other than direct military action.

Putin along with other allies is trying to destroy democracy globally.

One of those allies is Trump.

Putin's intention on Ukraine is genocidal -- to erase it as a sovereign nation, make slaves of its people, create a mass refugee crisis to destabilize Europe, and then murder any Ukrainian patriots still left. Obviously if he succeeds with Ukraine the Baltics are next.

He wants to restore the Russian empire as much as possible. He thinks he's Peter the Great 2.0. Not USSR. RUSSIAN EMPIRE. His ideology is that Russia can't exist without including Ukraine. He sees this war as existential. In service of that, he has rewritten history and sold that garbage to useful idiots like Tucker Carlson and other assorted maga and global fascists.

Never going to end it is all fun for Russia.

Putin thinks if it ends without something he can sell as victory for Russia, he and his regime are dead.

Losing hundreds of thousands of Russians to pick up an additional one percent of Ukrainian land in the last year. Thats's some impressive "winning" for you.
