A 75-year-old man has become the first casualty of recent cold temperatures in Thailand, according to police reports. The man, Wa Chamram, was discovered dead in his home in Ban Pho Thong village, Ban Dan district, after an overnight temperature drop to 18 degrees Celsius. The discovery was made at 7:30 am on January 2, 2026, by local police and rescue workers.

Wa Chamram was found on a mattress inside his single-storey concrete home, showing no signs of assault. Police believe he died at least three hours before his body was discovered. His wife, Jampii Cherngram, recounted that her husband typically woke up early to start a fire outside their home to combat the cold.

Jampii reported Wa’s unresponsiveness when she checked on him after he failed to wake as usual. She attributed his death to the sudden drop in temperature, noting he was in good health and did not consume alcohol. According to a neighbor, Thongsuk Tansiaidee, Wa appeared normal the night before and the cold was considered a contributing factor.

Authorities stated that an official cause of death would be determined, although the family does not suspect foul play. The body has been released for funeral rites following local customs. This incident occurs as a cold air mass continues to affect northeastern Thailand, causing a notable temperature drop, reported Khaosod.

despite what the IPCC propaganda will have you believe,

we are still stuck in a deep ice age and most people die not from heat waves, but from cold

AI: Yes, current data shows that cold temperatures cause significantly more deaths globally than heat, often by a 9-to-1 or greater margin

Probably a heart attack. "She" isn't real bright.

18 degrees does not kill anybody. What nonsense.

Thai women are not the sharpest. They still believe in ghosts.

Just curious - where are you?

Not sure I have ever experienced that low a temperature. Skiing with wind chill once apparently my nose went blue but I still don't remember it being that low....
