A serious road crash on Phahonyothin Road in Nakhon Sawan province left four members of a family dead and four others injured in the early hours of 5 January 2026. The collision involved a six-wheel lorry that crossed lanes and a pickup truck carrying a family returning from New Year celebrations, causing immediate fatalities at the scene.

The crash occurred at about 02:00 in Moo 6, Khao Chai Thong subdistrict, Tak Fa district. Police said the crash happened on a curve, where the six-wheel lorry ended up across the road with its windscreen shattered. The pickup truck, was heavily damaged about five metres away.

At the scene, the lorry driver and his wife were injured and were rushed to hospital for treatment. Near the pickup, a male driver and his young daughter, identified as father and child, were found in shock and calling for help for others trapped inside the vehicle. Rescue teams from Tak Fa and Khao Chai Thong local authorities used hydraulic rescue cutting equipment to free those inside.

Four passengers trapped in the pickup were pronounced dead at the scene. Rescuers reported severe injuries, with some victims crushed in the vehicle’s interior. The deceased were identified as the driver’s wife, two daughters and a nephew.

Initial enquiries indicated the family had been travelling together after returning from New Year celebrations in Phetchabun province. They were heading back to Suphan Buri, where they sold fried chicken and were carrying belongings in the pickup’s rear, including a motorcycle and an electric motorcycle.

The pickup driver told police that the six-wheel lorry crossed into his lane as he approached the curve. He said he was unable to avoid the collision in time due to the road layout, leading to a head-on impact. Of the family, only the driver and one surviving daughter, the twin of one of the deceased children, escaped with their lives.

Police from Tak Fa station are continuing to investigate the cause of the crash, including vehicle conditions, speed and road factors. Officers said further questioning of the injured lorry driver would take place once medical treatment allows and forensic examinations are under way.

Amarin reported that authorities noted that the incident occurred during the extended New Year travel period, when road crashes have increased nationwide. The case will proceed according to traffic and criminal investigation procedures once all evidence is gathered.

Usual driving habits in Thailand can't even stay in own side of road on a straight road. Never yield to oncoming traffic when passing a parked vehicle. Just come on wrong side expecting car who has right of way to yield.

I would propose that the driver of the truck be tried on multiple manslaughter charges, and hopefully locked up for at least two decades, and I would hope that that two decades would be spent performing hard labor and getting very intimately acquainted with his fellow inmates, who would like to give him a very warm welcome for taking out these kids, and utterly destroying this family.

RiP to all those deceased...

A car made for 2 should never carry 6 — it’s dangerous and illegal.

And passing trucks on a bend is asking for a crash.

Accidents like this don’t “just happen”; they happen when rules are ignored.

Think first, follow the law, and lives are saved.

RIP for the 4 persons that died.

Six people in the cab of a truck...not too bright and this is a common driving practice..Now the family

reduced to two...

Police said the crash happened on a curve, so not on a straight road.
