A fatal collision between a six-wheel truck and a pickup truck in Buriram province has left two people dead, after a second victim was discovered hours later at the crash site. The incident occurred on the Nang Rong–Buriram road, shocking local residents and rescue workers involved in the response.

Police said the crash happened at about 3.00pm on 7 January 2026 on the road between Ban Ranam Phluang in Nong Sano subdistrict, Nang Rong district. A six-wheel Isuzu truck, registered in Nonthaburi, collided with a Toyota pickup truck registered in Buriram, causing the pickup driver to veer off the road into a roadside ditch. The front of the pickup was badly damaged, with scrape marks visible along the side and rear.

At the scene, rescuers found Mr Songchai aged 72, a well-known pharmacy owner in Nang Rong district, lying unconscious against the driver’s door of the vehicle. He was taken to hospital by Siam Ruam Jai Pu-In rescue workers but later died from his injuries. Police from Nang Rong station launched an investigation into the circumstances of the crash.

After the incident, rescue workers posted dashcam footage from the six-wheel truck on their social media page as a public warning. Following the post, several people contacted the rescue team to ask whether any additional items had been found at the scene. Rescuers confirmed they had discovered a mobile phone and a handbag that did not belong to Mr Songchai and handed them to investigators.

The items were later linked to Mrs Phuang, aged 64, who had been reported missing by relatives. Her family said she had ridden a motorcycle to the roadside earlier that afternoon and planned to take public transport into Nang Rong town. When she failed to return and could not be contacted, her granddaughter reviewed the rescue video and noticed a person standing by the roadside just before the crash.

Ms Khemanit, aged 19, the granddaughter, said she believed the figure briefly seen in the footage was her grandmother being struck and thrown by the pickup truck. Family members searched the area and found a hand towel belonging to Mrs Phuang before locating her body in nearby bushes. Police later confirmed she was the second fatality.

Khaosod reported that the tow truck driver Mr Surasak, aged 22, said removing the pickup took unusually long and required three tow trucks, adding that learning later of a second body left him shaken. Police said further inquiries will focus on the exact sequence of events and potential liabilities.
