US Will Act on Greenland to Block Russia, China, Trump Says

The United States said they will take action regarding Greenland:

whether they like it or not"

President Donald Trump declared on 9 January 2026, warning that strategic rivals could seize the island if Washington does not move. Trump made the comments during a White House meeting with oil and gas executives, emphasising that U.S. national security requires a decisive role in the Arctic.

Trump said he prefers a negotiated approach to Greenland’s future but insisted that if a peaceful solution fails, the White House will pursue harder options to prevent Russia or China from gaining influence in the region. He argued that the U.S. cannot rely on temporary military arrangements and must secure full control to defend its interests.

Greenland is an autonomous territory of Denmark with its own government, and both Danish and Greenlandic leaders have firmly rejected the idea of ceding the territory. Officials there have stressed that Greenland is not for sale and urged respect for its sovereignty, highlighting deep diplomatic resistance to Trump’s demands.

European allies have also reacted strongly, with some warning that any forced attempt to take control could strain or even jeopardise NATO unity. Denmark’s prime minister has cautioned that unilateral action would mark the end of the alliance, amid broader concerns over diplomatic fallout.

Trump’s remarks follow a period of heightened U.S. foreign policy assertiveness, including recent military action in Venezuela, where American forces captured President Nicolás Maduro. Analysts say the Greenland rhetoric fits a broader pattern of prioritising strategic influence.

The U.S. government may continue to pursue diplomatic negotiations with Denmark and Greenland, while also signalling that military or coercive measures remain on the table. The coming days are likely to reveal how European leaders and U.S. lawmakers respond to these escalating tensions.

Key Takeaways

No love lost between most Greenies and Denmark.

Mr Trump and his team only want to improve Greenlanders' lives by offering to take the reins and steer the country toward economic prosperity.

They must also be protected from the villainous Chinese and Russian.

I seriously doubt Denmark is going to give up Greenland, nor do they have an interest in selling Greenland. They've already offered the US the ability to station more troops on Greenland, and build more bases, which the U.S has refused. The U.S has willfully withdrawn much of its forces over the years and only now is Trump talking about how important the place is.

Attacking a NATO ally is not going to go over well, and this could very well be the end of Trump as we know it. Hopefully.

Lock him up.

What a mysterious fantasy world your mind must travel thro each day. It's not up to "Mr Trump and his team" but the American nation as a whole (Congress ring any bells in there?). If Mr Trump and his team try any funny stuff like invade a foreign nation without that national approval to do so, he'll be impeached simple as. And your average septic on the street does not want to be invading anywhere I'll clue ya'.
