Zelenskyy and Trump to sign $800 billion agreement

Featured Replies

Western sources told the outlet that Zelenskyy and Trump will sign the agreement at the World Economic Forum, which will take place January 19–23 in Davos.

The Telegraph reports that Zelenskyy had planned to travel to the White House next week to finalize both the economic prosperity plan and the post-war security guarantees agreement. However, allies from the Coalition of the Willing discouraged him from making the trip and suggested the World Economic Forum as a "more suitable alternative at which to meet Mr Trump."

Journalists’ sources said the plan is to use this meeting to finalize the economic agreement.

European officials involved in the peace talks urged Zelenskyy not to rush negotiations with the US president, believing that he currently supports their goal of ending the war on terms favorable to Kyiv.

The prosperity plan is expected to mobilize around $800 billion over ten years and is aimed at rebuilding Ukraine and restarting its economy.

The document foresees the provision of loans and grants, as well as the launch of investment projects involving private companies, through which the necessary funds are expected to be raised.

Zelenskyy and Trump to sign $800 billion agreement on Ukraine’s reconstruction, media reports

Kyiv expects that US participation in post-war reconstruction — particularly in projects potentially of interest to Donald Trump — will increase Washington’s willingness to provide Ukraine with reliable security guarantees.

The foundation of the agreement is the mineral resources deal concluded last year, which gave American investors access to future extraction projects in Ukraine.

The I hate Trump crowd is strangely quiet on this topic.

You want some comment? Clearly Zelensky is attempting to placate Trump who has cut off virtually all US assistance to Ukraine.

Well, it seems that the guarantee side of the peace deal has been beefed up by the US and some European countries.

The only remaining problem is that there is no deal, so far....

The assistance is delayed. It was part of the US negotiating strategy. Other countries. have filled in the shortfall. For example, Canada is providing $2.5 billion. And no I do not support the strategy, but Trump is there to represent US best interests not EU's.

So, how do you know that the assistance has merely been delayed and ultimately will be forthcoming? What is there about Trump's previous conduct tells you that this is the case? And, of course, your comment begs the question of why it's legitimate to conduct such negotiations over natural resources in the first place? If the argument that stopping Russian aggression isn't worthwhile, why does the addition of natural resources make it so?
