Social Security Interview Thailand - What Questions, How Long?

Featured Replies

Hi

Can anyone answer the above questions please? This is the office out of Manila. I was given an appointment that makes my dental appointment tight. Also, not worked in many years. Concerned about random documentation as well. Thanks

I assume you have applied for benefits. The call is principally to verbally verify the information you provided in your benefit application. I recall my call took about 20 minutes. And the call came in past the appointment time so I suggest you change your dental appt as you do not want to miss or re-schedule this important call....

Thank you for the fast reply. Yes. I did the entire thing and signed.

Do you automatically get enrolled in medicare part A? There were only questions about B.

Reschedule two weeks ahead 🙄 argh

Oh! Did they discuss the deposit? Any way I can redirect my payment to Thailand on the call?

Thx again

They probably will not call you at the appointed time. My call was scheduled mid morning or so and they called late afternoon. No apology or mention of the appointment.

The officer was nice enough and the questions were simple. It took 10 minutes or so.

You are automatically enrolled in Medicare Part A assuming you are 65 or over. You can choose to enroll in Part B.

He asked me for bank details in the USA but I did not have them available. I later emailed the details and all went smoothly. I think I could have given him my Thai bank info, but I am not sure.

Thanks for all that. I thought it odd they wouldn't make signing up for A more apparent.

Bank details...

How can I prepare for that?

I'd used my US bank account when signing up because it wouldn't take SCB code. I want to switch to SCB (over the phone if possible and without the 1199).

Just the account and routing to verify? Address? Contact? IT or branch mgr?

Do they ask about finances like assets, bank details and accounts, balances? Do I need to pull all that mess together before?

I read on a website they could or might? Maybe thats more if in US?

Anyone done the interview and already retired early like 50?

The interviewer didn't ask anything other than what I supplied on the application to begin benefits. You're overthinking....don't worry......

You should be able to update your banking during the interview.

For depositing in a bank OUTSIDE THE U.S., they only need:

Name & Address of Bank (have the tele# at hand)

Bank Account Number

Swift Code

Type of Account

As to Medicare Part A, being overseas they should ASK you if you want to enroll. If you don't want to enroll, and if the interviewer doesn't ask, then you need to inform the interviewer.

Thanks. I'm getting this from websites. I think huge amounts of people are on disability and that may raise issues.

I really hope I can update, but thinking not bc intl banking may require the 1199. I recall reading here some needed to have the bank stamp the form. I'm hopeful thx.

I'm apparently auto enrolled in A. It's free. I just found it odd that there wasn't something stating that like a popup at least. Now I think about it because everyone is enrolled in A it makes sense not to have it as a pick because many might not select it for whatever reason and that creates a headache for ssa

Thx for banking info. Glad I asked I wouldn't have had address on hand.

Thx again

Had the Manila FBU phone call last July. It was 10 minutes, went oer some details of the application and confirmed the US Bank account information for payment to be deposited. The FBU rep then said the application will be sent to the Baltimore SSA office for final approval. Got my frist payment in September. I was eligbile to collect in july and submitted the online application in February. So far the payments have always been on time.

I knew there was some final approval to delay things.

Did it fit in 90 day window? You didn't state they paid you atop of your SSA monthly pension.

Thank you

Edit: reread appears they were a few months late. I'm not going to starve, but probably as everyone the waiting and indecision.

When they approve it you get all the back payments in a lump sum from the date you indicated you wanted to start SS. This comes in your first deposit.

Thx, I'd read that. It's not really the money, but the drawn out process is annoying. It's made out to be so quick and straight forward until you dig in. Sounds like it's always late for everybody.

Can I tell them I don't want the lump sum but to increase the payment? I'd read someone on this forum doing that some time ago. Any idea?

Medicare Part A is free for those who qualify. Most do qualify but not everyone does, and then you have to pay for it. Suggest you do a little research to be sure you don’t have to pay.

Here’s some info:

Yes. It took 7 months to get approved. First payment included the backpay as well. In my case I was not impressed wtih FBU Manila.
