Police in Pattaya raided a condominium in South Pattaya on 16 January 2026 after residents reported suspicious behaviour by Chinese nationals, leading to the seizure of two 9mm handguns and 11 rounds of ammunition. Two Chinese men were taken into custody for questioning and one has been formally charged with illegal possession of firearms and ammunition. The incident raised renewed concerns among residents about safety and unlawful activity in residential buildings.

The operation took place during the afternoon at The Glass Condominium on Pattaya South Road, Moo 9, Chon Buri province. The raid occurred at around 3.00pm and followed complaints from members of the public and building management about erratic and disruptive behaviour.

The raid was ordered by Pattaya City Police superintendent Pol Col Anek Sratongyu and led by Pol Lt Col Siriwat Katchamat, deputy superintendent of operations, alongside patrol officers. Police searched room number 7 on the first floor, where two Chinese men were found inside. Officers identified themselves, requested permission to search, and discovered two firearms: a SIG Sauer P365 9mm pistol and a Khar CW9 9mm pistol, together with 11 rounds of 9mm ammunition.

The suspects were identified in police reports as Mr Xiwen Pang, aged 38, along with a second man named Mr Xin Zhao, aged 37. Mr Xin Zhao was found to have a broken right leg, which police said resulted from an incident three days earlier when he allegedly jumped from a window after drinking alcohol and arguing with his friend. A urine test later showed Mr Xin had illegal drugs in his system, while the other suspect tested negative.

Investigators determined that the firearms and ammunition belonged to Mr Pang, he told police he bought the two guns from a Thai individual for about 30,000 baht each after returning from Vietnam, claiming they were for self-protection and that he was unaware unlicensed possession is illegal in Thailand.

Matichon reported that both men were taken to Pattaya City Police Station for questioning, with Mr Pang charged with possession of firearms and ammunition without a licence. Police have not disclosed whether additional charges will be filed against the second suspect. Authorities said investigations are continuing to determine how the weapons entered the country and whether they are linked to wider criminal activity.

Too much criminal activity being linked to Chinese of late.

But on the other hand, Thailand just loves the Chinese who get the red carpet practically on arrival at Bangkok. After all many in power have stronger chinese descent then thai descent it may appear ?

Yes I mean in how many countries is it actually legal........

What was the erratic and disruptive behaviour that caused the police to come knocking.

Was it the drunken row 3 days before or a continuation of that behaviour.

Both weapons are concealed carry handguns.
