A handful of House Republicans have proposed a bill that would prohibit American tax dollars from funding the World Economic Forum (WEF) while criticizing the transnational organization and its goals as misguided, elitist, and “anti-American.”

Called the Defund Davos Act, the measure would prohibit any funds available to the U.S. Department of State, the United States Agency for International Development—or any other department or agency for that matter—from providing funding for the WEF, according to a Jan. 19 press release.

Couldn't the military just court marshal him and charge their Commander in Chief with bringing the office of Commander in Chief of the military and President of the United States into dishonour and disrepute.

Preferably followed by a firing squad.

  1. US President Donald Trump is threatening Denmark with annexation of Greenland. In response, the Danish pension fund AkademikerPension has announced it will sell holdings of US Treasury bonds worth approximately $100 million. The fund cites the weak financial situation of the US government as the reason for the sale.

  2. A Swedish asset manager is also reportedly divesting itself of US Treasury bonds. The large Swedish pension fund Alecta has sold a significant portion of these securities due to political risks in the US, as reported by the business daily "Dagens Industri" (DI), citing the company. The sale reportedly amounts to between 70 and 80 billion Swedish kronor (approximately 7.7 to 8.8 billion dollars). Alecta justified the move by citing increased risks and the unpredictability of US politics.

  3. Investors in the options markets are positioning themselves for an even stronger euro, according to Ulrich Stephan of Deutsche Bank. This is based on the assumption that a further escalation of the trade conflict could lead to the sale of US Treasury bonds. This, in turn, would weaken the dollar further. "The euro-dollar exchange rate is likely to follow developments in the tariff conflict in the short term," the investment strategist said.

Winning... ?

Oh, I'm sure WEF got millions (or billions?) from the U.S. government.

What a waste of time and money. And this "Defund Davos Act" is paid by US-taxpayers.

The WEF, an international advocacy non-governmental organization and think tank is mostly funded by its 1,000-member multi-national companies.

no, good point.

but what do you know about WEF? like most, probably not much.

here's some snippets from a speech at Davos.

feel free to debate it if you have any idea what you're talking about. but please stop calling Trump a madman if you have no understanding of these issues.

Feel free to debate Howard Lutnik's points at Davos.

They are claiming globalization has failed the West.

"When pressed on the issue of Greenland, Lutnick said “our national security people are on it,” and added that “the Western Hemisphere matters to the United States of America.”

He was later asked how his emphasis on the importance of sovereignty could be reconciled with the ongoing threats to take control of Greenland in the face of opposition from both the territory and its parent state, Denmark, and to impose new retaliatory tariffs on countries that have criticized the plan."

so whats your point?

tariffs are just bargaining tools.

this thread is about WEF.

can we discuss Greenland in the Greenland threads?

As I understand, leaders in Greenland would have voted for secession except for the fact that they are receiving welfare subsidies. They don't want to lose their welfare.

I doubt there will be a conflict over Greenland, but I could be wrong.

Denmark, and to impose new retaliatory tariffs on countries that have criticized the plan.

So here is a "No Kings" sign at Davos, ie for Trump.

But what about Denmark and UK? Aren't they monarchies?

Because Lutnick talks a good game about sovereignty, but in reality doesn't have much respect for it.

And whatever the motives of Greenlanders may be in choosing to remain with Greenland or not, what has that got to do with Trump's attacks on national sovereignty?

But you did get it right about the outcome of Trump's threats. And it was educational, too, since it shows that Trump can't be counted on to keep his word.

They are what's called Constitutional monarchies. Do you understand what the means as far as the power of their titular royals go?

Gee, you sound like a Nazi. So violent with your F-16s!

And a conspiratorialist.

Maybe go for the Trifecta....pick another absurdity and wear it proudly. Maybe go after the Bilderbergers or Bohemian Grove or Skull&Bones? How about 10' Shape-shifting Green Lizard People from the rogue planet Nibiru?

Generally Davos is merely a place rich business and finance types go to see whose junk is bigger. Davos has levels of access, and everybody jockeys for the special badges that grant total access to all venues. That's where guys show off images of their new jet interiors or the design plans for their megayacht under construction.

Only weirdos think it is some cabal that decides who is going to run the world and shepherd the masses into some sort of debt slavery.

I don't know how old you are, but maybe it's time to grow up?

not sure what you mean.

Greenland = greater sovereignty

I don't want to see any conflicts. I want to travel around the EU in a caravan, so I don't want war there. Messes with my plans. I love EU people. I have EU ancestry.

I'm sure he will cut a deal with the Greenlanders.

It used to be only discussed in conspiracy circles.

But now it cannot be more apparent that it wields a lot of influence.

Lutnik is saying "globalization has failed" ie policies that have been imposed on all western countries by WEF.

Oh wait ... Trump is insane and therefore Lutnik must be insane.

Yeah, that's a better explanation.

Muahhahahahaha

What's insane is claiming that the WEF imposed globalization on all Western countries. What is their leverage? Or did they use sorcery?

1 minute ago, Alan Zweibel said:

Not sure what their leverage is.

It's above my pay grade.

But why would Lutnik be wasting time talking at WEF and saying globalization has failed. Why is he even arguing with these people if they wield no power?

What is "globalization" ?? The very term implies a connected network of multiple countries collaborating. So who agreed to it?

Surprising how many Nazis or Nazi supporters there are here; maybe they would feel more comfortable living in Israel.

The US president's speech in the convention hall at the WEF was riddled with barbs and untruths. Many attendees made no secret of their displeasure: they grimaced or left the hall, and even watching the livestream in other rooms of the convention center, some couldn't keep their eyes open, as the Keystone-SDA news agency reports.

Gavin Newsom, visibly annoyed, told reporters immediately after Trump's appearance: "That was the most pointless hour you and I have ever spent together."

Danish Foreign Minister Lars Løkke Rasmussen rejects the “immediate” talks on Greenland demanded by Trump.

Former US Vice President under Bill Clinton, Albert Arnold Gore Jr., said of Trump’s treatment of other nations: “Trying to destroy these alliances with a wrecking ball, the way he destroyed the East Wing, is literally insane.”

Trump withdraws tariffs against Europe, Greenland “deal” in the works

US President Donald Trump has decided not to follow through on his threat of punitive tariffs against Germany and other European countries on February 1st. In a post on the platform Truth Social, Trump explained that a framework for a future agreement on Greenland and the entire Arctic region had been established following a meeting with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte.

Not sure what their levearge is but you're sure it exists?

He's addressing the leaders of various nations who happen to be at an event hosted by the WEF.

As for who agreed to globalization? Really? Maybe you should look up a thing called GATT.

it appears, that for some the love for Davos is strong here, equalled only by the hate for anybody not sharing in their views, must be a lefty thing,

please for the benefit of all, could you explain what you personally mean by Nazi

ps . simply not being a fan of the WEF or having a different view on things than you is not a valid answer

i am, were can i get a uniform, and meet likeminded others

calling me a Nazi is of course ridiculous and to be honest, for me its like water off a ducks back

I do however think that it seriously diminishes ,dilutes, and trivialises the horrors faced by the victims of the holocaust.

So in the eyes of the anti-Semitic lefties i guess its the perfect insult, but now due to misuse and overuse the term is not taken seriously by any of those its directed at including myself

No, they have a website and there are "agendas" on their site. The meeting at Davos is not a cocktail party. It's to get everyone on board.
