This one can indeed by a nasty virus. What I take away from this: don't nibble on fruits that a bat has shat on. Don't go around kissing Indian men. Seems not too difficult.

Should they cancel visa's for all other nationalities also travelling from India or does this virus only affect indian nationals?

There is no need to present false information. It will not change the reality. Nipah virus is in no way the "flu". Nipah is a zoonotic virus and is not an influenza virus. There is a high likelihood of death because it is difficult to detect until the patient has an advanced infection. and there is no effective treatment. The flu does not have the 40-75% mortality rate of Nipah. it is not a nice way to go. The patients who die typically develop encephalitis, which in turn induces seizures, comas and strokes which are often fatal. Those who do recover can be left with permanent brain damage that results in behavioral changes.

My childhood memories are considered as false information, how's that work?

Sorry to swim against the tide here, but it looks like when the next plandemic starts, Thailand may be one of the worst countries to be in. Was there any form of overhaul or public reflection on the dramatic effects most of what was done during 2020-22 had?

I'm deeply concerned that Thailand still plans to even follow the WHO's IHR playbook, which is hard to call other than totalitarian. Life involves having to fight infections, viruses and parasites all the time, but that people in power also have the power to involve authoritarian measures under the pretense of some questionable 'risk' (which was extremely exaggerated as we know now) and policies instrumentalizing fear and panic has to be prevented in the future, if we didn't learn much else from that time.

they keep encouraging Indians to come.

Well that’s specifically what not to do given transmission is through bodily fluids…. 😘

don't know when you were a youngster but:

"The Nipah virus(NiV) has been known to science since1999,"

So about 26 or 27 years it has been known.

Really, I think it is a lot worse than flu.

From the Google summary

"The Nipah virus affects humans by causing flu-like symptoms (fever, headache, cough) that can rapidly progress to severe neurological issues like encephalitis (brain swelling), leading to disorientation, seizures, coma, and often death, with a fatality rate of 40-75%; some survivors experience long-term neurological problems, while respiratory illness can also occur, varying by outbreak strain."

Don't worry lots of posters here will be swimming in your direction soon, you won't be lonely.

Well since Nipah was identified in 1999 that would put you at about what age?

Maybe your memories are confused, I don't know.

Just saying...

Right, those viruses in India are watching the Thai election calendar closely.

You got it wrong, it is the Thai election, candidates in office, lusting for the virus, wars, etc..

Maybe not the too revealing collapses of public works...

I'm 52, i'm not confused and certainly not in the slightest worried about nipah, unlike you by the sounds of it...

The pro-mask brigade will be having a field day!

Fortunately I have no current plans to visit Thailand with its virus paranoia. You can keep your Nipah virus!

No further comment from me.

Your loss. Not ours. Every day here is a very good day.

All about India, but we don't read anything about the Superflu in Great Brittain.. the H3N2 virus, which is a serious flu

So your childhood memories come from when you were age 26.

No, they come from when i was a child.

If i've told you i'm 52, that shouldn't be too hard to figure out my childhood years ( for most people ).

It's good they're screening everyone from these flights. Anutin said it's not 'airborne'. I guess technically he's correct. But you still wouldn't want some infected guy to cough anywhere near you nonetheless.

You dismissed Nipah as a flu. It is not.

As for your childhood memories, they may not be reliable. You may find this summary helpful in understanding why;

  • Memory Accuracy: Childhood memories are generally malleable for everyone, regardless of intelligence. Approximately 40% of people across the general population believe they have "first memories" from age two or earlier that are likely fictional or reconstructed from photos and family stories.

Just read that this virus comes from bats.

I have seen people in restaurants on Thai islands that keep bats as domestic pets.

Apart from that, bats are widely available in Thailand and neighbouring countries.

I just hope that science catches up soon and figures out a vaccine.

Incredibly helpful, thanks for that.

Why doesn’t the Thai government ban all Flights and other means of transport from India to Thailand for two months or more until the virus is combated in India

Sadly, all the Thai Government thinks about is MONEY and visitor numbers. Banning flights = lower visitor numbers (even if from only India = lower income! It is esier to screen flights from India and get visitors to pay for their treatment in Thailand if positive.

We should just shut down the highways in Thailand. That would save an estimated 50 lives per day - 4 times more than Nipah kills in a year.

Because the infected caseload is still relatively insignificant.

There were only 2 confirmed cases in West Bengal at this time. The good news is that the Indian health authorities are relatively good and are staffed by trained professionals. India has contai ned and controlled past outbreaks. It has a lot to lose if it does not. As per the BBC; Two cases have been confirmed in West Bengal since December, reportedly in healthcare workers. Some 196 people who were in contact with them have been traced and tested negative for the virus, India's health ministry says. Flight bans will occur if the case loads increase significantly.

Precautionary screening at key entry points is exactly the right call, using the systems they perfected during COVID to prevent any outbreak before it starts.

As I see it, the key issue here is the large number of international visitors to Thailand.

Thailand's initiative doesn't just benefit Thais, it will potentially benefit many other countries as well by peventing the virus from entering and potentially being carried abroad as these visitors return home.

Well done Thailand!

"using the systems they perfected during COVID to prevent any outbreak before it starts." You HAVE to be joking to have this mindset, surely? Hard to believe anyonne would STILL think this way by 2026!!!

Every single subsequent version of Covid has become weaker and less lethal. I am infinitely more concerned about catching the flu, than getting Covid.

At this stage, it is simply a historical nightmare. No need to raise a lot of fear over this.

Did you literally not read the article! This has nothing to do with Covid. It is a completely different virus. I know that you obviously have Covid PTSD and probably are still suffering from long Covid ( brain fog), but try and actually read the content before responding!
