A 35-year-old Danish man named Nicklas was arrested for stealing a safe containing land and property documents valued at 100 million baht from a luxury villa on Koh Samui. The villa, owned by a Chinese national, was burgled on January 25. CCTV footage showed Nicklas leaving the scene on a rented motorcycle with the safe in tow.

The theft occurred in the Bor Phud sub-district, Koh Samui district, where the Chinese owner discovered the missing safe and reported it to the Bor Phud Police Station. Inside the safe were 11 land title deeds, seven house registration documents, and luxury villa construction plans. Nicklas was later seen checking into a hotel, where he allegedly opened the safe.

After taking the documents, Nicklas reportedly discarded the safe under a tree along a beach road. He then fled to Krabi and booked a flight to Bali, Indonesia, but discarded his passport at Krabi International Airport before being detained by joint efforts of Bor Phud and Mueang Krabi Police. Officers transferred him back to Koh Samui for further investigation.

Nicklas entered Thailand on a tourist visa in December and visited Koh Tao and Koh Pha Ngan before arriving in Koh Samui. Despite being questioned, he provided a confused account of his actions, and his motive for the theft remains unknown.

The Chinese victim confirmed no prior acquaintance or dispute with Nicklas, leaving authorities to investigate both parties further. Legal proceedings are ongoing as police attempt to clarify the sequence of events and any potential connections between the suspect and the victim, reported The Thaiger.

Key Takeaways

  • Nicklas was arrested following a theft of documents from a luxury villa on Koh Samui.

  • Police captured the suspect before he could flee to Bali via Krabi International Airport.

  • The investigation is ongoing, with unclear motives and no prior conflict reported by the victim.

Ok, that was a new one. Besides that, did he also own the land on the stolen documents?
