Australian Tourist Visas

Featured Replies

I have been successful on 3 previous occasions (1st was 3 months, 2nd 12 months and 3rd was 3 years maximum of 12 months) in obtaining Tourist Visas for my partner - we met in 2018.

I applied for a new Visa in December and got a refusal, I then reapplied this month answering there concerns about her not returning to Thailand - she has never overstayed any Visa and we got another refusal. Our and her situation has not changed and we got another refusal.

Has anyone out there had the same problem??? Or has a fix.

I’ve contacted a Thai Visa company and it appears to be too hard for them, so now I’ve got to go through the Appeals Tribunal at a great expense. I’m very pissed with the Australian immigration right now 🤨

That's not good.

I didn't think you could appeal a tourist visa.

How long has she spent in Australia all up?

It would be helpful if you cut and pasted the reasons for refusal.

You use the word "partner" and the year 2018.

Questions you do not have to answer here - are you in a (what is known in Australia and elsewhere) de facto relationship? If "yes", for how many years? Was this information provided on the visa application? Was any supporting documentation - eg joint bank accounts, leases, property, etc. supplied in support of the application?

Good luck.

I used the term ’de-facto’. We do not have joint accounts, I got the house built for her 2 years ago (I’m aware it’s not my house - smart ass replies not required). I sent photos of the house - no mortgage, no lease, no joint bank accounts. We’ve been living together in total for around 4 years - continuously since 2022.

Not worth it.

You still haven't said how long she has spent in Australia.

Because you haven't provided much detail on the refusal reasons, I can only assume it's because Immigration have decided she's spending too much time on a visitor visa.

I wrote to the Australian consulate about two months ago asking what was required to get a holiday visa for two months for my partner , defacto situation for 12 years, with a built house, so far no reply.

Great bludy service, i don't think. It seems most consulates have a bad name when it comes to service. The consulate won't even tell me what procedure i have to take.

Does anyone know if there are agents who do this and if so are they expensive and reliable.

I'm surprised you didn't get a reply.

I have always had any emails replied to within 48 hours.

All visas are issues from the Department of Home Affairs.

This is from their website.

https://thailand.embassy.gov.au/bkok/visas_and_migration.html

A visitor visa application is not that hard, although some people prefer to use Agents.

All of the information you need about a visa is on their website.

OP, all I can think is, has your partner had an adverse history in Australia / Thailand since the last visit?

With all respect, what does the Australian government know that you don't? What does the Thai government know that you don't? What does she know that she's not telling you?

Think about it. Same people, same visa application. Same personal circumstances. Something has changed, and as you are an Australian citizen, that means the change is with her.

She has been to Australia 4 times on 3 Visas.

1st Visa - 28 days on a 3 month Visa, 2nd Visa - 81 days on a 12 month Visa and 3rd Visa - 335 days on trip 1 & 77 days on trip 2 on a 3 year multiple entry Visa with 12 month max on anyone visit.

Again

Without you quoting the reasons why the visa has been refused, I'd suggest that Immigration thinks she's been spending too much time in Australia to be classed as a genuine visitor.

A stay of 335 days means she was pretty much living there.

What did Immigration say was the reason for a refusal?
