Russian Man Dismembered in Pattaya Debt-Linked Killing

I can't understand the mentality of killing someone that owes money. It just ensures the debt can never be repaid.

Unless some sort of insurance scam is involved.

It insures that others involved will pay?

Welcome to how punishment is delivered in Thailand when mixing with wrong people. Legalising Cannabis was a disaster and guess who was the instigator? The current PM..hopefully soon gone

Crikey, Pattaya seems more dangerous for Russians than the Russian front. He should have joined Russia's army, perhaps, still be alive.

Thanks, the effects are coming to fruition. Constant crime and dwindling tourist numbers 👍

No Thai that I am aware of is forcing you or I or anyone to come to Pattaya. There are criminals everywhere on the planet....and, guess what, they are not going away.

Sending a message to others? Reverse of a loss leader... absorb the loss to recoup other (bigger) debts? "Remember what happened to Mikhail?"

The names of the hitmen are most likely incorrect. Cutting up pieces of the body is Chechnya gangster style. And yes it sends a message. It may have been more than just a debt. Perhaps, a refusal to cooperate on sales or to sell the business.

Maybe not. But I'll bet their other debtors started paying up.

With the new (OAOA) open arms, open legs visa policy for Russians, it is likely that we will see more and more crime related deaths and problems. It would appear that the Bratva and the Triads are now able to openly operate here in Thailand.

Russians are a brutal lot in general and it's down to their home system that brutalizes them, then they brutalize others... including their own, which is how it works (and has done for a very long time) in their society, armed forces, police to even villages (look no further than how their soldiers act and have done so historically) unless you are from good circles of society/middle class or higher in Moscow or St. Petersburg. Few people properly understand how Russian culture/society really works, especially once you start going east to the Urals and beyond or to places like the Tuva Republic etc, and it goes way back to the hellhole it was through the 18/19/20th centuries to the present day, just got a modern slant to it.

As for these two, hope they get the harshest possible punishment for just casually chopping up some dude over a "debt" (assuming they are telling the truth and it wasn't just a business deal gone wrong) and then bagging him, plus conducting a quick mafia-style burial. Just goes to show how careful you have to be here with who you get involved with, as there are serious criminals floating around everywhere pretending to be something else.

Some good advice here is to not get involved in business "deals" with random people - rarely works even with people you think you know - or even get involved at all in a financial way with anyone... as you have no idea who you are really talking to and generally no good will come of it, and one side is always left scammed, or worse. The sunny brochures of Thailand and YouTube nonsense gloss over the reality of many truths here.

Thailand police (those investigation type) are quite good in solving or catching bad people if they want to. on the other hand Immigration ( good guy in bad guy out) are not very good at their job and even causing problem for normal folks.

Unless they determined that the debt would’ve never be repaid and they decided to show what happens when trying to cross them…

Years ago I acted for some people implicated in a similar situation - I was told that the main reason for such a brutal execution is to encourage others to not fall out with the perpetrators

I was told it worked very well as a brutal message to players in a brutal sub-World that normal people would do well to stay well away from

Must be a warning to others not to fail payment

Perhaps, but that would presume organized crime to be involved. Loan sharks etc. Which doesn't seem to work, rather, in fact maybe a warning to not murder people over money. This doesn't seem like an amount of money that people usually kill over. But speculation is of little use. This kind of debt can be litigated even though Thai courts may be dodgy, better that than getting the death penalty or life in a Thai prison. I think Darwin awards apply here. But a tragedy even for stupid people is still a tragedy for the families.

The kind of story I don't need to read about. has always happened, will always happen, like a page from humanity's playbook.

The mentality, obviously, is there is no mentality. These are not smart people.

UPDATE

Forensic Tests Advance Pattaya Russian Murder Investigation

Police in Pattaya have reported significant new developments in the investigation into the murder and dismemberment of a Russian national, with forensic examinations strengthening the case against two suspects already in custody. The latest update centres on physical evidence recovered from vehicles believed to have been used to dispose of the body, as well as the status of the suspects during detention.

On the morning of 2 February 2026, officers from Police Forensic Science Centre 2, Chonburi, conducted detailed examinations of two seized motorcycles at Nong Prue Police Station. The vehicles, a Honda Forza and a Yamaha, were taken in as key exhibits following earlier investigative findings.

Investigators focused on inspecting areas beneath the motorcycle seats and other suspicious points for trace evidence. Preliminary results confirmed the presence of bloodstains under the seats, reinforcing police belief that the motorcycles were used to transport the victim’s dismembered body to the forest burial site.

Police reiterated that the victim was Mr Mikhail Yemelyanov, a Russian national, whose remains were found buried in a forested area of Nong Prue subdistrict. His body had been cut into 10 pieces and concealed in black plastic bags before burial.

At the same time, authorities provided an update on the condition and status of the two Russian suspects, Iaroslav Demidov, 35, and Dmitrii Maskalev, 38, being held in connection with the case. Since the morning, no relatives or representatives have contacted police to request visitation or to submit a bail application on their behalf.

Officers reported that both suspects appeared physically normal while in detention, eating meals provided and sleeping without difficulty. Police noted that the suspects did not display visible signs of stress, anxiety, or unusual behaviour and did not make any special requests while under supervision.

Investigators have also formally opposed bail at the inquiry stage, citing the seriousness of the offence and its severe impact on public sentiment. Police described the case as particularly brutal and disturbing, justifying continued detention while the investigation proceeds.

Senior officers, including Pol Maj Gen Chokchai Ngamwong, Deputy Commander of Provincial Police Region 2, Pol Col Wasurachai Chaitheerapat, Deputy Commander of Chonburi Provincial Police, and Pol Col Natthaphon Phongsuksakul, Superintendent of Nong Prue Police Station, inspected the house believed to be the primary crime scene. Police maintain that the murder and dismemberment occurred at this location before the remains were transported.

Authorities confirmed that Pol Lt Gen Chatchai Surachetpong, Commander of Provincial Police Region 2, is scheduled to personally brief the media later today with further updates on the investigation.

Key Takeaways

• Forensic police found bloodstains under the seats of two seized motorcycles on 2 February 2026.

• Investigators believe the motorcycles were used to transport the dismembered body to the burial site.

• Police are opposing bail for the two Russian suspects due to the severity of the crime.

This murder proves that the cannabis business isn’t the same as the way it’s portrayed in the movies. It’s run by ruthless people whose greed ensures they don’t think twice about killing anybody they believe double crossed them. If you’re in the game you accept the rules, simple. This guy stepped over the line and paid the price.
