February 3Feb 3 If Trump calls someone a “100% Communist lunatic”, I’m going to like him.Although Zohran Mamdani’s net worth is just $200,000, he faces criticism for the wealth of his parents. Mahmood Mamdani, a rather unobservant Gujarati Muslim, is a respected Columbia University academic earning $200,000 a year.He teaches African and international politics, and colonialism and post-colonialism. Dr. Mamdani focuses on the state, citizenship, and identity. His wife, a Punjabi Indian filmmaker and nonobservant Hindu, is the big earner in the family. Salaam Bombay (1988), Mississippi Masala (2001), Monsoon Wedding (2001), Vanity Fair (2004), The Namesake (2006), Queen of Katwe (2016) received an Academy Award, the Golden Lion, a BAFTA Award, a Golden Globe and Independent Spirit Award for Best Film nominations. Monsoon Wedding was the highest-grossing Indian film in North America. The Mamdani family’s net worth is estimated to be between two and ten million dollars. Mahmood is Nair’s second husband. She moved with him to Uganda, like many Indian expats, and then to Cape Town where Mahmood was chair of African Studies at the prestigious University of Cape Town. After the Mamdani family’s move to New York, Zohran attended the private Bank Street School for Children at $70,000 tuition followed by the free, public achievement-based Bronx High School of Science.Zohran’s middle name Kwame is in homage to Kwame Nkrumah, a revolutionary, pan-Africanist, first president and later dictator of Ghana.Bottom line, Mira Nair earned every penny. It has been reported Zohran grew up with servants. Perhaps he did. It is certainly commonplace in India.Zohran married Syrian artist Rama Duwaji in a private Islamic Nikkah in Dubai, then a civil ceremony in New York. The couple’s lavish, three-day wedding with 400 invited guests in Uganda was held at his parents’ compound on Lake Victoria. No figures were released, but high society weddings in Uganda cost $50-100,000.One’s family does not necessarily inspire one’s own aspirations. Those who criticise Zohran are jealous of the Mamdani family’s education and earned wealth. And they are desperately afraid of the boogeyman…socialism! No matter where one sits, capitalism is theft. I hope he can cure New York City, my hometown, of it.

February 4Feb 4 Popular Post The GOP is so frustrated over his victory and just the thought of a non-white man running a major American city makes them utterly sick so they come up with this kind of garbage try to trash the name of what appears to be a very good man. All this despite the fact that the bankrupt republican party is being controlled by billionaires at this point, whatever wealth there is in the family belongs to his parents who have earned it through intelligence, entrepreneurship and creativity, unlike Trump, yet the hypocrisy continues.

The systems of govt we have now aren't working for the people.Yeah, this is my advertorial for Mamdani. Why? Because, number one, I'm a New Yorker in my heart. The City means a lot to me.But No. 2, it's because I love experiments, with something different. Maybe we'll get closer to the right answer this time. Maybe Mamdani can sand away the tiniest bit of set-in-cement politics.

Guess an existential war is coming.First of all, antisemitism, show me. Even a single statement will do."Up to February 2026, there is no credible evidence, public record, or mainstream consensus identifying academic and author Mahmood Mamdani as an antisemite. His scholarly work focuses on political science, colonialism, and conflict, often analyzing Zionism as a political ideology rather than engaging in anti-Jewish hatred." (Wikipedia)I am not suggesting a "war" against capitalism. I'm suggesting a mind-shift from property to people. Has there ever been such a war? Countries race to embrace it!But...consumerism consumes us all. Even the billionaires. The least you can be is open-minded. I hope he does good things for New Yorkers. I want New York to be a sanctuary for immigrants as it was for me during the draft..
February 4Feb 4 Chairman Trump wants to nationalize voting. Everything to be run by the government. Bad commie! Mamdani wants free buses. Good democratic socialist.

February 4Feb 4 Author Highest income tax in Canada is 14-33%. GST is 5% PST 7-9%. Not a helluva a lot of difference. Our healthcare wait times are lengthy and they wait until one's condition is serious. IOW, there's not much attempt at preventative, functional or integrative medicine. Canadians also have to pay for higher education.Better in Scandinavia.

IE the government owns all the business. The Welfare state is not socialism.

I'd be interested in hearing your views about what socialism is.For me, socialism fits the Scandinavian model. Free healthcare, rent-controlled housing, housing for the homeless, free public transportation so people are not driving as many cars, the absence of authoritarianism, equal taxation for those below a certain threshold, tax the <deleted> out of the rich. Maybe even a guaranteed annual income. A society based on equality, a society welcoming productive economic migrants who want to work and then go home to their families. No more police state. Yeah, antifa. I don't honestly know why anybody would be pro-fascism. Minimal military, closed overseas bases, abolish nuclear weapons. Peace Corps and humanitarian aid to other countries, brokering peace in war, negotiation and compromise not threats. Is this idealistic? Sure, but you only get half a loaf when you ask govts. Let's see how much of his platform Mamdani can accomplish. It's a good start, if he isn't fettered by the old guard. Republicans and Dems don't mean anything.

Socialism is where the government owns the means of production. The Scandinavian model is nothing but a huge welfare state. The population of Scandinavia is 22 million and homogeneous. Do you really think this huge welfare state can scale well to a population of 350 million with open borders? BTW, when you say 'free,' nothing in life is free. Someone pays for it. The military is necessary, there are threats in the world. China, Russia, etc.
