Police in Pattaya began an investigation on February 9 after discovering a foreign woman's body floating near Jomtien’s Dongtan Curve beach in Chon Buri province. The body, found around 8am, was floating about 50 meters from the shore, beyond swim safety buoys. The victim, wearing a blue and green floral bikini, appeared to be between 30 and 40 years old, potentially of Russian descent, with light blonde hair.

Police Lieutenant Thanongsak Inphadung, along with officers from Pattaya City Police Station and rescue teams, arrived promptly at the scene. Rescue divers recovered the body, and she was brought ashore for a preliminary investigation. The initial examination showed no visible injuries, with an estimated time of death of five to six hours before discovery.

The body held no identification documents, but a strong odor of alcohol was noticed, prompting speculation that intoxication might have led to her drowning. The body was transported to the Police General Hospital’s Institute of Forensic Medicine for further analysis to precisely determine the cause of death.

Investigators are actively gathering evidence to identify the deceased and contact any relatives. The ongoing investigation will focus on uncovering additional information regarding the circumstances surrounding the incident, reported The Thaiger.

Key Takeaways

  • A foreign woman’s body was found floating in the sea near Pattaya.

  • Initial findings suggest no visible injuries, with possible alcohol involvement.

  • Investigations are underway to identify the woman and determine cause of death.

RIP poor lady.

"a strong odor of alcohol was noticed, prompting speculation that intoxication might have led to her drowning."

Poor lady, but swimming under the influence is not a good idea!

""a strong odor of alcohol was noticed..." Floating for 6 hours and they claim they can smell alcohol is utter nonsense.

5-6 hours is not a long time, post mortem. Alcohol could remain in the stomach, blood and tissues. Sea water cannot wash this away. Ethanol is volatile but not particularly so and vapour could easily continue to emit from the mouth, nose and skin for this period. For the same reasons, it is easy to tell that someone consumed lots of alcohol the previous night when you meet them the next morning.

And she must have had a real skinful if there was still a strong odour of alcohol noticeable after 5 or 6 hours in the sea

How could you know what they could or couldn't smell?

Drinking and performing any physical or intellectual activity is not compatible. Everybody should remember that while opening the third beer bottle.

Terrible way to end a Vacation. RIP Young Lady.

russian= putin no doubt

Has anyone reported her missing? Also, how/why would they assume she was Russian?

She was wearing a bikini which might have a maker's label on it.

I did the exact same thing last night.

Then opened a fourth bottle.

Do you meet them them the next morning when they have been dead for hours from supposed drowning, and their lungs are filled with water?

Tell me, how does a deceased person from drowning expell air from their lungs / breath that the scent of alcohol can be detected by police?

You may be barking up the wrong tree here. Many found drowned have quite small quantity of water in their lungs. The previously consumed alcohol will actually be in their stomachs. I think it quite possible there would still be a smell of alcohol.
