A Thai army conscript has lost his left leg and is in a critical condition after stepping on a landmine in Kantharalak district, Si Sa Ket province. The incident was confirmed by the 2nd Army Region on 11 February 2026. He has been urgently transferred to hospital for treatment.

At 16:40 on 11 February 2026, the 2nd Army Region received a report that one serviceman had been injured in a landmine explosion. The injured soldier was identified as Private Pariwat Meemana, attached to Infantry Company 132. Two other soldiers, Sergeant Major Pramote Deephak and Private Chakraphong Phoemueang, sustained minor injuries. The explosion occurred near an operational base in Kantharalak district, Si Sa Ket.

Preliminary reports indicate that the explosive device is believed to have been a landmine left over from past fighting in the area. The device was reportedly still present within the operational zone. Authorities have not provided further details about its origin.

The force of the blast resulted in the soldier’s left leg being severed. His right leg sustained a large laceration, and his condition was described as critical. Personnel at the scene administered initial first aid before urgently evacuating him to hospital.

Khoasod reported that relevant agencies are conducting a thorough inspection of the surrounding area to prevent further incidents. Officials are also assessing overall safety conditions within the operational zone.

I pray that the conscript recovers from this horrendous wounding.

I pray that the army are properly training conscripts. There is mine detection equipment that's far more reliable and resilient than a human's leg.

Without researching the picture in the OP, it doesn't appear to have been in a totally remote location. Maybe a camp site?

Meanwhile, every morning, the Thai TV news is filled with videos clips of both Thai and Cambodian army conscript's smartphone video clips, interspersed with shouted claims of the enemy's alleged use of terrible weaponry against Thailand.

Deep hole for an anti-personnel mine.

Anyway, elections are over, now landmines make a comeback, strange hey.

Injured Conscript Shows Improvement After Surgery

A Thai army conscript who lost his left leg in a landmine explosion on 11 February 2026 is showing signs of improvement following emergency surgery. Private Pariwat Meemana, 23, remains under close medical supervision at Surin Hospital. His condition has stabilised but he is being treated in intensive care.

The blast occurred at 16:40 on 11 February in a border area of Kantharalak district, Si Sa Ket province. Private Pariwat, attached to Infantry Company 132, was seriously injured, while two other servicemen, Sergeant Major Pramot Deepak and Private Jakkapong Phommuang, sustained minor injuries. The explosion severed his left ankle and caused a large laceration to his right leg.

The incident took place in front of the old border base, along the route to the new border base in the Phlan Yao area of Kantharalak district. Investigators found the blast site within the barbed-wire line on the Thai side. Preliminary assessments suggest the device may have been an old landmine left in the area, pending further clarification from the army.

Private Pariwat was airlifted by helicopter to Surin Airport, where an emergency ambulance transferred him to Surin Hospital. He arrived at 19:05, where Hospital Director Dr Chawamai Suebnukarn assembled a specialist medical team to provide urgent treatment. He was conscious on arrival and taken to the emergency room for assessment before undergoing surgery.

At 10:00 on 12 February 2026, hospital officials confirmed that surgery had been completed overnight. He was moved to the surgical trauma intensive care unit (ICU) in a sterile room at Surin Hospital’s accident building. Doctors are monitoring him closely, particularly his severely injured right leg, which requires ongoing urgent care.

Dr Chawamai said the patient had lost a significant amount of blood but that the hospital blood bank had sufficient supplies for treatment. He confirmed that the conscript’s condition is improving steadily, although he remains under close observation in ICU. He added that the patient is in good spirits.

Matichon reported that on the morning of 12 February, Private Pariwat’s parents and relatives travelled from Amnat Charoen province to visit him. Upon arriving at the hospital, his mother experienced a worsening of her Parkinson’s disease symptoms caused by stress, outside the trauma surgery ward before the visit. Relatives escorted her away to receive care.

Key Takeaways

• Private Pariwat Meemana, 23, is recovering in ICU after losing his left leg in a landmine explosion on 11 February 2026.

• The blast occurred in Kantharalak district, Si Sa Ket, with two other soldiers sustaining minor injuries.

• Doctors at Surin Hospital report steady improvement, though he remains under close supervision.

It may appear so!

Across the border, international social media is suggesting this is Thai military propaganda post to draw attention away from the political General Election turmoil in Thailand.

From Facebook

Thai citizens in Bangkok are questioning the ethics and legitimacy of the election results. Once again under pressure, Anutin needs to distract the Thai people. Out of nowhere, a Thai soldier "steps" on a landmine. Do you see his pattern?

They could be right...timing wise it is suss...I suspect fighting will soon break out, to divert attention away from the election fiasco.

what fiasco, ?

The election.

The NACC petitioning the SC to look into the possibility of banning a sizeable chunk of PP, the biggest opposition party, the day after the election.

The EC being petitioned by PP to approve 10 recounts three days after the election.

The EC dismissing the petitions four days after the election

The national vote count stalled at around 94% after almost five days.

You know, the fiasco.

I don't consider it a fiasco at all , it is what it is, its how they do things here, you have surely been here long enough to know that, , If you think the "peoples party" were going to benefit us in any way , I think you are mistaken, I don't recall any immigration reforms mentioned in their proposals, do you?

Nothing to be gained by any expats getting "upset" try to stay positive,

You assume I am a farang who is upset about PP not doing as well as expected. I'm not. I was collating instances reported in Thai mainstream media about the concerns of Thai people.

Yes, I've been here long enough to know there's nothing that any farang can do.

Thus, to me, as a non-participating casual observer from the side lines, the election was and remains a fiasco.

You're welcome to the peanut gallery.

A very noble task keep at it , and let me know how it works out for you,
