    When was it far cheaper?

I will not be better 20 years from now.

So many people who've been here only a couple of years claiming Thailand was not better 20 years ago.

You haven't noticed it because you spend most of your time in the house or going to stores, driving your bike or going to restaurants. Most Thais would be surprised if they actually knew what goes on here daily. Add to that the other countries who also have their share of violence. Myanmar, Laos, Cambodia, China, Koreas, especially the north.

There are reasons people go into prostitution, and they all involve mental illness. Either with them or with them and those who sell these people, along with those that use, abuse and profit by them.

Some parents force their girls to the trade because they want money from it. Many are trafficked, which means addictions, beating, rape and slavery.

It's easy just to buy the girls or boys, have your way with them, and not see the aftermath. Most aren't with husbands but boyfriends who also take advantage of them, and the worse are those trafficked, which happens in Thailand every day as it's a major hub of trafficking, some involving officials. In the UK, you worked because you wanted money. No one forces anyone into working unless it's in prostitution or trafficking, which i s slavery and much higher now than ever before in time.

Female victimhood. Same old, same old.

Cheaper for me not you.

No, it´s not cheaper for you. This is not on an individual level. The 22.5% regards all who is affected by the currency selected. Other currencies, might differ a bit, but again. No! It´s not cheaper for you! The 22,5% is affecting your buying power as well. You just can´t get out of that fact. Therefore, it´s much better that you just admit your failure, instead of fighting it to the end. Caesar, Hitler and napoleon already tried that. Doesn´t work.

I spend 1000 baht less and have the same fun. So for me yes it is cheaper.

People are often negative due to a combination of evolutionary, psychological, and environmental factors.

Negativity Bias: The human brain is naturally wired to focus on negative experiences as a survival mechanism. This negativity bias means we notice, remember, and react more strongly to bad events than good ones—such as recalling insults more vividly than praise or dwelling on a single criticism despite overall positive feedback.

Emotional and Mental Health Roots: Chronic negativity can stem from unresolved trauma, low self-esteem, or unprocessed emotions. When people haven’t learned healthy ways to express fear, sadness, or anger, these emotions can accumulate and manifest as persistent pessimism or criticism.

Environmental Influences: People raised in negative environments often mirror that behavior. Similarly, constant exposure to negative media, social media, or toxic relationships can reinforce a pessimistic worldview. Social media, in particular, amplifies negativity because negative content grabs more attention and triggers stronger emotional responses.

Behavioral Patterns: Some people use negativity as a coping mechanism—lowering expectations to avoid disappointment, controlling others to feel safe, or seeking attention through complaints. Others may be manipulative, using emotional distress to gain sympathy or influence outcomes.

Which is the same as any other country on earth. Silly metric you are using. Thailand was far cheaper 20 years ago. The average middle class Thai could afford a decent standard of living and could easily get in on the housing market. Not like that today. You can argue that till your blue in the face and it will remain a fact.

Thailand was much better 40 years ago....

Nope Australia has standard prices. Thailand is all over the place. A 500 baht room is better than a 1500 baht room. The 200 baht curry is crap, the 80 baht one is good.

Aussie curries are $15 to 20 mostly.

Hotels are $120 to 500

Coffees are standard $4 to 6

A cheap room is never better than an expensive room!

I can buy a curry for 60 baht and a coffee for 100 baht in Thailand which is crazy!!!!!!

In Nakhon Phanom i got a room with giant tv and giant bath for 500 baht. In Australia most 5 star rooms dont have a bath like that!

You act like you have been here for 10 days. You are far from an expert on anything Thai. Oh I have been to Oz several times. The first in 1979, and two more times since then.

You can also buy a fancy curry for 500 baht, and an oliang for 20 baht. I prefer the oliang how about you?

You can buy good and bad foods of all varieties in Thailand, and some of the higher priced ones aren't as good as the regular street foods. Some people, like all over, are just better at cooking than others.

There's no way of telling people what places are the best as we're all individuals. All one can do is recommend a dish they've tried, and the other person can go and try it, which doesn't mean they also will think it's great. Individual tastes.

In the US, three people can have the same exact ingredients and one can make a fantastic spaghetti sauce, while the others are bland and tasteless. There are countless restaurants in Thailand and all different prices for the same dishes. You can also find good, clean rooms for all prices, all over Thailand, all depending on location and amenities. The same everywhere. Location and what's offered matters most.

Yes. I normally read google reviews.

It's always best to ask close friends or family, as you're more likely to get an opinion you've already been accustomed to. There are people who aren't satisfied with the best a place has to offer, while many others are totally satisfied. If most reviews say pretty much the same thing, it's likely they're a good description a person can count on. Not always.

No they don't. A $150 room is never better than a $500 room. Coffees and curries are standard prices.

The cheapest coffee is 7/11. Cheapest food is Red Rooster.

A bunk bed in a hostel is $30. HH has double rooms with pool and gym $18.
