There is no onward ticket rule.

Onward flight is sometimes required by airline for those flying visa, exempt to Thailand.

Also has nothing to do with Overstay.

Thailand Immigration Facebook reel issued following the furore over the woman refused entry on the 20,000 baht rule clearly states that evidence of "Exit" is required........point 3 of 6 points.

The exit rule as stated in the reel also points out that exit should be within 60 days, or 90 days if the entrant is going to extend their visit.

Given that the discretion of the IO officer (who may well have seen the reel and/or been briefed similarly) is the ultimate arbiter of entry it would seem wise to act in the belief that an exit rule exists.

It is a rule by many airlines that you have an exit ticket. Many wont let you check in without one. Not generally asked for it on arrival in Thailand though. Overstay being the main worry, though of course this onward ticket rule doesn,t automatically prevent that.

Or working illegally.

Earlier you posted....

"The onward ticket rule is shyzer because it doesnt stop people overstaying"

Onward flight has zero to do with overstay.

Really, Philippines has a VE that let's you continue to renew up to 36 months, leave for one day and start again.

Also with their retirement visa (SRRV) you never report to Immig for anything (90 day etc) and your card is only renewed once every 2 years. Had mine 15 yrs and never been to an immig office. They also have the usual tourist visa

Which place in the Phils would you recommend, and how is Subic area for farangs these days.?

It's not an airline rule, it's a Thai imigration entry rule that the airlines enforce, as they may be fined if they bring in a passenger who fails to meet the entry requirements.

Thank you for your kind words. I think its a MOOT POINT. Whether airline rule or immigration rule. It doesn,t matter. Fact is, the rule it can be enforced by the airline at point of departure.
