Experiments on Monkeys?

Featured Replies

I've noticed that there are large numbers of monkeys on the outskirts of Pattaya. Are there any lab facilities where a layperson can conduct or participate in medical experiments on simians? Everything else seems to be available in abundance, perhaps this form of 'medical tourism' could be developed. It was impossible to get a monkey in to our high school biology lab and we had to settle for frogs instead.

Are you asking if it's ok for you to go and butcher a monkey? This forum just gets worse.

Jeez, how moronic can posts get. Why not let your classmates experiment on you.

Good idea. Half domesticated monkeys. Horrible things. Only difference is they don't wear stilettos.

In Bali some of the well-to-do Balanese keep big monkeys and one escaped and was roaming around Kerabokan.

We didn't see it and it came up behind and jumped on my wife's leg. Was a shock as she didn't know what had happened so she freaked out and kicked like mad and it sunk it's fangs in. Nasty few bites.

Then the Rabies shots over the next months.

Do they hang around near the motorway toll booths?

Monkeys are filthy, destructive and nasty little demons that should be avoided

On the other hand, for medecine, science and treatments to make progress, would you rather have experimentation on humans or on monkeys ?

Get your rocks off on the prospect of conducting amateur "medical experiments on sentient creatures do you?

Sick mind

How about dogs? Far too many here to the point of then being a plague!

I always find the whole animal cruelty argument sort of amusing. What I find especially puzzling is the fact that most people who discuss animal cruelty are meat eaters, so they're perfectly willing to devour beef, pork lamb, and any other sort of meat which directly contributes to the death of millions upon millions of animals each year, and yet for some reason the death of a monkey seems cruel. Can anyone explain that one to me?

I am very glad there are absolutely no monkeys in our area. I 100% agree: "Monkeys are filthy, destructive and nasty little demons that should be avoided." I'll take pigeons over monkeys any day of the week.

Animals bred for consumption live a life of nothing much more than eating. Not a bad life. And it's not as though they are tortured to death. Food, food, food, food, food, bolt through the brain, pork chops.

While what you're saying is fundamentally true, what is the real difference between taking the life of an innocent cow and taking the life of one of thousands upon thousands of monkeys prowling around the hills and streets? That same argument could be applied to nuisance soi dogs in certain areas where they are in abundance, though dogs are certainly a much more sensitive topic than monkeys, for alot of people.

Yeah quite easily. If I fancied a burger, I'm not then saying I'm prepared to walk into a field and 'conduct or participate in medical experiments' on the cow.

You are conflating two issues to try and prove a point - the killing of animals for food might not be for you (it is for many but I respect your opinion) but perhaps we can both agree it doesn't have to involve carving them up for sadistic pleasure beforehand.

Quite an emotionally charged subject! It's good to see a few rational responses and the posters who are willing to examine the issue with an open mind. Perhaps I'll have to consult with a university via a Thai friend.

Easy there partner. Those injections you're so fond of could and should be tested on your kin instead of simians.

Good idea, horrible thing to get.

Story: Just when the AIDS scare was going around in Bangkok and I was new and frequenting Therma and other fun places and I broke out in all these big sores that followed my rib cage all around front and back.

Went to the local clinic near JUSMEG where I was living and told the dr I'm sure I have AIDS.

He didn't thinks so but took a blood sample to check.

Went back for the results, knowing I had AIDS and he said yes you have AIDS then started to laugh ...he then said that it wasn't AIDS but Shingles.

We both had a laugh (maybe).

Still if you can get vaccinated for it the better as it's horrible.

Perhaps it wouldn't be so 'emotionally charged' if you had mentioned whether you are in anyway qualified to 'conduct or participate in medical experiments on simians'

Are you?

Even monkeys would distance themselves from that…

Are you thinking gender reassignments? It is Pattaya after all.

And this statement is derived from your own living arrangements. So sad.
