Vietnam's largest island, Phu Quoc, has been ranked the ninth friendliest destination in the country by Dutch travel agency Booking.com. This rating is part of the 14th annual Traveller Review Awards. Hoi An led the list, followed by Mai Chau in northern Vietnam, showcasing the diverse appeal of these regions to tourists.

The rankings are derived from over 370 million verified traveler reviews worldwide. The selection emphasizes Vietnam's rich tourism landscape, which includes everything from historic towns to pristine beaches. Besides destinations, the awards also acknowledge accommodation and travel-related businesses globally.

Within Vietnam, more than 13,052 accommodations received the award, highlighting the country's growing reputation for hospitality. Phu Quoc, celebrated for its extensive coastlines and luxury resorts, is a notable favorite among international tourists. Visitors commend the island for its residents' warmth, enhancing their travel experience.

Recently, Phu Quoc introduced a tourism rapid response team to enhance visitor safety. This effort underscores the local authorities' commitment to improving tourist experiences and ensuring a welcoming environment. The initiatives align with Vietnam's broader strategy to bolster its tourism industry.

Looking forward, Vietnam's tourism sector continues to make strides in attracting global travelers. Efforts to maintain high standards of hospitality are crucial as the country seeks to capitalize on its diverse offerings. The ongoing recognition of destinations like Phu Quoc underscores the dedication to providing memorable experiences for travelers, reported VN Express.

I've been to plenty of places in Vietnam, and I found Phu Quoc to be the most friendly and its citizens the most helpful.

I've booked again for next month.

At times, after some of the sullen faces in Hanoi, you forgot you were in Vietnam with the beaming smiles of Phu Quoc!

Yes, people on the island are friendly, and surprisingly honest, considering the number of tourists.

But the survey is BS, there is absolutely no way that Hoi An tops the list, unless it has drastically changed since I visited in 2017. It is the rip off capital of Vietnam, nowhere else that I know of, do you get cheated as much as in Hoi An.

Hanoi could be second on the dishonesty list.

I found it hard work in Hanoi with people and the honesty stakes!!!

I am in Danang next month before Phu Quoc and was going to visit Hoi An; now I will research again, I think!

A lot of things change in 9 years especially in Asia. Hoi An is very friendly towards tourists.

That is true, of course. So would love an update, because it is probably the most beautiful town in Vietnam, and almost a must visit.

But friendliness is not worth much if it's used to rip you off.

In the Mekong Delta area, where I live now, they are both friendly and honest, as far as I can tell.

Danang is not Hoi An, although they are close. I loved Danang, and found the people there much more honest. Also, my visit was 9 years ago, so things might have changed.

Hoi An is a lovely place, and even if you still get overcharged, you should visit, it's a small town, you can see all the sights in a day or two.

Hoi An,

I saw all the sights in 2hrs, it's a place for foolish women to visit, nothing there for manly men to see, unless you want to watch hordes of Chinese tourists pushing you around.

Da Nang,

Great beach resort, clean sand, clear sea, cheap beer.

Hanoi,

Best sight seeing in Vietnam, Halong Bay & Ninh Binh for cast mountains and beautifuf scenery, Food walk is interesting, Culture walk a bit disappointing, but even a walk around the central lake is nice.

Saigon,

Sex, sex and more sex, even walking around in the day or sitting in September park, you'll get hit on by young attractive Viet women. Fast boat to Vung Tau and the very clean, sandy back beach, or the hooker bars of front beach.

Hanoi, HCMC, and Can Tho I know well.

This will be my first time in Da Nang, followed by my third visit to Phu Quoc.

I have a Vietnamese pal from many years ago who's working in Danang, so I might ask him to go with me on a day trip to Hoi An, just to say I've seen the place.

I was going to say, once you've been to HCM, Hanoi & Da Nang how many places do you need to get through before you get to PQ?

Is there a list of their more visitable places before I book my next trip to VN?

Next month I am just doing Danang, Phu Quoc and Phnom Penh for a birthday trip then finishing in Bangkok and then heading back upcountry.

That's probably the best approach.

I visited Hoi An in 1993 and thought it charming; small artisan shops, good food and a laid-back atmospheric. Returned last year and hated it. Basically sovereign shops with overpriced restaurants serving bland food to hordes of tourists, most of whom block your way in order to capture that perfect Instagram shot. The waterfront is still pretty, mind.

I loved Da Nang. The seafront is pleasant and not overly developed. The city itself is nothing to look at, but has excellent, cheap restaurants aimed at satisfying the locals not pandering to tourists.

All the above is subjective of course.

Sounds good, I'm trying to do <180 days in Thailand this year (Have done 2 weeks in Maldives for my 60th Birthday & 4 weeks in Penang, we loved it) so am looking for other options of places to visit.

My Thai partner loved Penang (even she had to admit the food is awesome there & is happy to go back) but doesn't want to do Cambodia (her words... "War") or Philippines (Have a Filipna Ex-Ms) so PQ for 4 weeks sounds great to me.

Can I please ask for recommendations to stay... IIRC when I last looked into it "Long Beach" came bacck as a recommendation but if you were staying there for 4 weeks where would you suggest?

Hi,

I've always stayed at the same place the couple of times I've been, but it might be pricey for a month.

I am actually having a splash as it's my birthday next month.

Furthermore, I would have a good fish around for deals and look at Airbnb; there are plenty of deals to be had.

This place below is the bee's knees, but they charge plenty as well compared to others.
