US submarine captain gave Iran crew two warnings

Featured Replies

This is interesting.

The US submarine captain who sank an Iranian warship off the coast of Sri Lanka warned the crew twice before firing torpedoes, it has been claimed. At least 87 sailors have been confirmed dead and a further 78 wounded after an 'explosion' hit the 180-crew frigate IRIS Dena, around 25 miles south of the Indian Ocean island on Wednesday. According to Iranian reports, one of the crew members rang his father claiming that the US warnings to abandon the ship were ignored by the commander on the Iranian warship.

More warning they ever gave to civilians, or soldiers asleep in barracks.

The Daily Mail is not a credible source.

Both craft were returning from 'friendly war games ' exercises just days earlier, how sick is the Yankee! 😞

Not a surprise, the Navy has long service, better, more professional personnel, than other branches of the US military.

Has the US declared war on Iran?

Saw this comment on a Reddit thread. Seems a reasonable summation:

"Dena was a warship in the active naval service of Iranian Islamic Republic. Given the outbreak of hostilities, Indian authorities offered safe harbor to Dena. Dena was not in any nation's territorial waters when she was sunk. Dena was not showing a white flag. Dena was on a heading towards a conflict zone. Dena's fate rests solely with the decisions of her commander."

This comment also said "Dena had all of her weapons in place. The disposition of ordnance aboard is unknown."

I don't know whether Dena had all her weapons in place but debate about "vessel was unarmed" seems beside the point. It was a WARSHIP, not a civilian or fleet aux vessel. I find it hard to believe that any nation would ever send a fighting ship like a frigate anywhere without at least some defensive capability.

Doesn't need to be although it seems you're unaware of this fact.

Legitimate target unlike the civilians Iran targets with missiles, drones and now cluster munitions.

Only because it goes against your political bias.

No need. Iran declared that it would close the strait of Hormuz and that it would sink vessels in the waters. It also has been firing missiles at non combatant, non belligerent nations including Qatar, UAE, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Jordan, iraq, kuwait, Azerbaijan, and indirectly Turkiye. This makes its warships legitimate targets.

That's an unfair generalization. All branches of service have their quality people and their misfits.

So you will justify bombing schools, hospitals and civilians "because its war". This is the level the developed humans have fallen to.

Another version regarding this incident...

It is a war between Iran and Israel. Trump did not start anything. He joined 1 side already at war.

And what has that got to do with the constantly changing justifications for going to war? The US is lying to help Israel?

Iran kills thousands of it's own people for nothing.

: Iran is a signatory to the Nuclear Non-proliferation Treaty (NPT) and officially states its nuclear program is for peaceful purposes, guided by a fatwa from Supreme Leader Ayatollah Khamenei against weapons of mass destruction. However, it has significantly breached the 2015 nuclear deal (JCPOA) by enriching uranium to 60% purity, a level close to weapons-grade.

Reason enough 11 years ago.

Good thing that their nuclear capability was destroyed about a year ago. Or so the Trump administration claimed.

And the girl's school where the US killed over 100 children.

I've never said anything remotely like that.
I know you wish I did so it'd give you something to squawk about but I'm not the guy for that.

That enemy ship was fully armed. Don't care if it had munitions on it or not. Our Sailors would have no way to know that.
30 + ships in the Iran navy that was supposed to be in vincible are now laying on the floor of the sea AND the HQ port for their navy was destroyed.

Your train of thought aligns with the headline - US submarine captain gave Iran crew two warnings

If our enemy hid with me/my people to hide, hoping to avoid getting smoked, I'd fully expect and support the decision to smoke us all to defeat them.

Its a simple concept

I don't think even America claims its own ships are invincible. You got any evidence to back up such a claim for Iranian ships? You should be working for the Trump administration.

Still being investigated but what is known from satellite images is this school was either in or adjacent to an IRGC compound which would have been the target.

What kind of justification do Americans have to stop another vessel in international waters ? Have Usa officially declared war on Iran ?

There are some essential question needed to be answered! There are rules to play by, if not anyone can just attack each other for any reason given! Sounds stupid, but thats how the world works, and if not, then this gives future precedence that will go against allies or Usa later on!
