Crash Victim Taken to Police Station Dies of Hidden Injuries

Featured Replies

A 23-year-old woman died in a police station, after a motorcycle crash in Bangkok, prompting her family to question why she was taken to a police station instead of hospital. The incident, revealed at a press conference, on 8 March 2026, has raised concerns about the assessment of injured accident victims by emergency responders and police. Doctors later confirmed she had suffered severe internal injuries.

The woman, identified as Warissara, worked at a restaurant in the Sukhumvit area. The crash occurred late at night in late February last year, 2025, as she rode her motorcycle back to her accommodation in the Lat Phrao area during heavy rain. The wet road caused her to skid and fall from her motorcycle, near Soi Lat Phrao 48 at about 02.20.

Rescue workers arrived at the scene and reportedly found only minor external injuries, including abrasions and facial swelling. They also detected the smell of alcohol and believed the crash may have been caused by intoxication. As a result, she was taken to Phahonyothin Police Station rather than to hospital.

At about 03.02 she was brought to the station and left lying on the floor while officers processed the situation. According to reports, no one initially suspected that she had sustained life-threatening injuries.

At approximately 04.58 she began to suffer seizures while inside the police station. Officers then contacted rescue workers to return and assist. After she was taken to hospital, doctors determined that she had suffered severe internal trauma from the crash and died at around 06.00.

The autopsy found multiple broken ribs, a punctured lung, a torn liver and significant internal bleeding in the abdominal cavity. The victim’s mother, Samaporn Pongkhamla, 52, said through tears that the family questioned why officials did not take her daughter to hospital immediately after the crash. She said that if medical treatment had been provided earlier, there might have been a chance to save her life.

Her sister, Nanthicha Chokchaiphan, 27, said the family had been trying to follow the case since the funeral and had found several inconsistencies. These included how the injuries were assessed, why the victim was taken to a police station rather than hospital, and the temporary disappearance of her mobile phone before it was later returned.

The victim’s boyfriend, Natthapat Kliangklau, 23, said the couple had left work together that night before separating during heavy rain on the way home. He arrived first and waited, repeatedly calling her phone when she did not arrive, before learning the following morning that she had died.

Daily News reported that over a year after the incident, the family said the case had shown little progress despite a complaint being filed against those involved. They are calling for authorities to clarify the facts and for a review of accident response procedures to prevent similar tragedies in the future.

This is simply terrible on several levels but the sheer incompetence, disregard for her well being and an obvious coverup are at the top of the list. With the internal injuries she suffered she would have been in severe pain and shock and hospitalisation would have been obvious This happened over a year ago. Disgusting. Heads need to roll for this and the family should get as HUGE payout.

And look at how they manhandled her, as if she were a bag of rice. Unbelievable.

Why was an accident victim taken to a police station instead of a hospital?

Even with suspected alcohol involvement, medical care should come first. Anyone thrown from a motorcycle is a potential trauma patient.

Treating her like a suspect before treating her like a human being is an inexcusable breach of duty.

Did the autopsy confirmed alcohol or not? Also, would her internal injuries have been survivable with timely treatment, and did the delay contribute to her death?

These are not complicated questions, they’re the bare minimum her family deserves. And yet more than a year later, they’re still waiting for closure.

That delay alone speaks volumes. When authorities move this slowly, it destroys trust!

This was a complete systems failure. Poor judgment at the scene, poor medical prioritization, poor communication, and a painfully slow investigation.

Every safeguard that should protect the public failed at the same time.

This is very strange indeed.

How does someone with these minor injuries die from significant internal bleeding.

This is perfectly normal too right ?

Unbelievable. We all love the place but sometimes it is a proper banana republic. Very sad.

Heads rolling maybe not but IMO there will be a substantial payout to make the story, which has only now come to light, go away.

Totally disgraceful.

Yet another indication of the total incompetence of the RTPF.

Major reforms to RTPF training required.

Seems the first respondenders at the scene got it totally wrong.

The way she is being carried is just an indication of how uneducated they are about accidents and moving people 🙈

Maybe the BIB said she's coming with us. Speculation of course but it's more usual than not that accident victims get whisked off to hospital even with minor injuries.

Internal damage is not necessarily visible to the untrained. That's why there are protocols requiring transport to a hospital in much of the advanced world. The "rescue" personnel are not trained healthcare professionals. They mean well and may know some basic first aid, but they are a very poor substitute for an EMS response. Just another fun characteristic of Thailand.

I agree- but before we all condemn this as typical of Thailand I would mention such incompetence is not just limited to happening in Thailand

Some years ago I had a similar case- my client was in a car accident and was taken to a police station as he was suspected of drunk driving

He was questioned and accused of not being co-operative so he was put in a cell and left alone - and sadly he died there as a result of severe internal injuries

His inability to answer police questions was assumed to be due to alcohol hence being left in a cell

A tragic case herein Thailand- and to me the sight of the lady being carried like a bag of rice is appalling - and given she had serious internal injuries I would imagine the pain she suffered as a result of the manhandling must have been terrible

RIP

Exactly, Not even brought in on a stretcher for God's sake. May her spirit go to a far better place than she had here.

Anyone that gets on a motorbike in Thailand takes their own life in their hands. Motorbikes in Thailand are a death trap especially under the influence. This woman gambled and lost.

Over 14,000 people killed in motorcycle accidents in 2024...

Over 14,000 people died in motorcycle crashes in Thailand in 2024. DDC urges helmet use as 84% of injured riders were not wearing one.

I saw the video footage on Thai Ch3 this morning. I couldn't believe that they took an unconscious, injured woman to a police station instead of a hospital. Like others here, I'm also appalled at the way they manhandled her injured body, literally 'lugging' her into the police station, then dumping her inside the door. And this happened a year ago - no news back then?

They never seen unless called or out buying their meals. But when they a appear they totally incompetent.

Good living here if you survive the drive, you don't ever have to worry about cops.

In 10 years driving here I have seen less police than in South Australia in a week.

Amazing Thailand.😀

The police should be held responsible for their lack of proper care no matter what they suspected. RIP Warissara.

Like many others who've lived here for many years, I go out of my way to avoid a police encounter - of any kind - and at all times. I don't doubt the RTP are professional and capable at the level of detective investigating serious crimes, but all the street level cops and station house cops are to be avoided IMO. I'd add that goes for all SE Asian countries (maybe not Singapore).

Maybe no injuries were showing and the hospital visit was about to happen.I,am sure if injuries were showing it would have being hospital for sure first
