Four individuals were sentenced to death by the People's Court of Ho Chi Minh City on Thursday, marking a significant crackdown on a massive drug trafficking operation. Nguyen Binh Dai, Mac Vinh Khiem, Thai Duy Quang, and Nguyen Binh Trieu received the death penalty for their roles in illegal trading of narcotics. The sentencing reflects the severe measures being taken against drug crimes in the region.

The case revealed in November 2022 exposed an extensive drug network operating within the city. Authorities observed suspicious activities involving defendants Khiem and Quang, leading to a thorough investigation. Police found nearly 43 kg of ketamine hidden in a residence, with further searches uncovering additional drugs like methamphetamine and MDMA at multiple locations.

Expert analysis pointed to Nguyen Binh Dai as the group's leader, orchestrating the distribution and storage of drugs from sources named Giang and Yang. He directed associates to handle shipments, conceal drugs, and manage transactions. In one instance, a sizeable methamphetamine deal was carried out for over US$15,200, illustrating the scale of operations.

Looking forward, intense scrutiny and legal action against similar networks are likely to persist. Authorities are expected to tighten security and enhance cooperative efforts to dismantle other potential rings. The case highlights the government's aggressive stance on drug-related offenses in Ho Chi Minh City, reported VN Express.
