Just for the sake of it , if your list is true ..and please that's a big IF ...it was probably a farang who stole it

There's wishful thinking, and reality. Thais are very honest and trusting people, just like the rest of the world ... BUT ... many do live behind walls with bars on their windows & doors, for a reason.

To the post you replied to, it's relative to location, and bars, tourist areas are high petty crime areas for a reason.

Nuff said.

in Thailand you can leave keys and phone on table, go for a leak, and nothing is touched when you come back.

I hope no one reading that takes it seriously; I can't think of one place in the world where I would take that to be true.

But that's ok -- accidentally careless is one thing, hoping for the best when you realize what you did, but leaving the stuff out with an arrogant "it's ok, no will take it because I say so" would be pretty damned stupid.

Any more advice?

There is grown up men here, so everyone should be able to make their own decisions, and was ment like a comparison between Brasil and Thailand. In Brasil, if you do not pay attention, or walk the wrong place, it is almost guaranteed to be robbed or your phone stolen, while less chance in Thailand :D

Your generalization is inaccurate. My friend had his bag stolen in Patong. He is Thai and left it on a chair while he went to get a beer. I took my eye off of it for a few minutes and it was gone. Another, had his European quality motorbike helmet stolen. Theft of phones and purses following a vehicle collision when people are injured is a common complaint.

Sounds like a job for "notebook man"! Discern the facts, note, compile statistical analysis and report.

Florescent jacket - check.

Notebook - check.

Sharpened pencil (suitably sanitized after removal from where the bar owners you were investigating last time inserted it).

Patrols mounted day and night -check.

Strong letter/report to Pattaya City Hall - check.

Nobody wants to fall sick in Thailand.

You cant catch a cold from an AC! FFS.

ac or being out in the rain does not make you sick .. germs make you sick

sitting in a hot sweaty bar drinking cheap sh**ty beer and sucking up someone else 2nd hand smoke and enduring stinky armpits sure don't help

I opt for comfort when I go out

I prefer aircon. Particularly while the sun is up. I may be a native Texan, but my Irish ancestors never dealt with this much sunshine, heat and humidity.

I smoke so a air-conditioning bar is a no-no for me.I miss my old favorite bar in sukumvit soi nana in Bangkok.Loved sitting there looking the streetlife. No its hooters there where i never visit. In soi nana my favorite bar is kick-off where u also can look the street life.. people come and go and in weekends live music.

I went to this Nana place the other day , is this where the BTS Nana is underpass is ?

Actually it said BTS Nana but I couldn't find it , then I walked past a shophouse on the right side said "Lolitas

, I didn't like the "feel" of that area it looked a bit like the Philippines

I felt a bit unsafe walking around there and this was during the day last Friday so ended up getting a grab out

I would bet all the rice in Thailand you were nowhere near there. If you had been you would not have asked your BTS question. Stop telling porkies and making adventure up.

I will not attend any place that is open to smokers, including open bars, as I am allergic to smoke, owing to multiple bush fire exposures, parental smoking, and other reasons.

Many open front establishments have fans along their frontage pushing the smoker's smoke into the rest of the building, and others avail themselves of the sea breeze doing the same.

There is a health type place at the bottom of Soi 5 Pratamnak that has placed the smoker and vape area along the sea frontage and the rest of the open air place is unusable for me owing to the number of smokers and the prevailing wind pushing the smoke into non smoking areas.

Nothing is done to fix the known problem, therefore I no longer go there despite it being good in other respects.

There is no point having a law stating no smoking in food consumption areas when the frontage smoke blows into the premises.

Similar occurs along the beach frontages of Jomtien and Dongtan, where smokers pollute the air along the beach footpath/pavement.

My allergy makes breathing compromised for 30 minutes, and I can taste and smell smoke 30 metres away, so the problem is unusual and breathe holding is not feasible - especially when the covert smokers hold their ciggies in a curved hand trying to hide - which does not stop the smoke and I get caught out.

Cigarette smoke is a major health risk to everyone, including smokers, and the smoke is a form of assault in and of itself against others - and some smokers become belligerent and aggressive in defence of their addiction.

The loss of my business is insignificant compared to the income provided by those with addictive habits, I realise this, but that does not lessen my ability to share an opinion, and one based on my health science training and experience.

Please do not bother flaming me, as I have heard all the justifications including from dying patients, and I take actions to try and avoid the addicted people venues, but open streets remain problematic where people flaunt the rules.

Don't be scared lots of good people live around Nana.

You should try living in the area, maybe you and Bob can do your fitness routine together.

Bob walks around the block every morning.

Sometimes there are distractions, too many beautiful young chicks walking the streets.

Bob talks to all the sexy girls but they refuse to talk, rejecting him, Bob doesn't understand why, he reckons he's a chick magnet.

Ok, you got me there. 😄

In Bangkok I have a lot more than once left a bar due to freezing. And then the fans on the ceiling that blew the polar stream down... I sometimes successfully get someone to turn it off. I did not come to Thailand to find more cold.

Except a certain one on LK Metro!

I stayed on level 3 at Metro Apartments (AC bar) in December, it's a canny popular bar - mainly watching sports (9 TVs).

First time I stayed there.

May I ask this in the Pattaya forum , because I believe Bangkok may be different

Air conditioned bars

, i am observing they get less customers, do you believe I'm correct ?

I had a farang recently who told me that particular bar failed as it had glass windows and was air conditioned, I was absolutely and what's the word.... gobsmacked!

Does it make you consider stepping in perhaps some hesitation ?

and opening the glass doors to go in , do you prefer open bars and why ?

I didn't notice in my study many glass fronted air conditioned beer bars I must say particularly in Soi Bukhao

In a sports bar in Pattaya watching the football one time, I had to go and stand outside in the warm air and thaw out 3 times. Didn't seem to bother anyone else and have been to that bar many times with no problems, but not keen on aircon anyway.

Part of the issue might be that enclosed air conditioned bars might be stricter about enforcing smoking rules. And that's one of the reasons why I prefer them. This time of year when it starts getting warm I'll take air conditioning over dripping sweat, whenever I have that choice.

Idly wandering why anyone should come to this most intriguing fascinating and essentially friendly of countries, with magnificent foods, gorgeous women, to sit in an upstairs bar and watch sport on TV!

It's funny because in general, in the non large city areas, and even there, you can leave things with your scooter and they'll be there when you return. Leaving the keys is not a good idea, as scooter thieves look for exactly that, as they can take a scooter in daylight surrounded by hundreds and no one would think anything about it, as it could be their scooter.

Watching someone walk away with a nice helmet and leaving the scooter is different. Someone might say something.

In the country, you can leave most anything and it will be there, as I see it done daily, with all kinds of groceries, helmets, construction supplies etc and no one steals them. They'll go onto your land and take Jackfruit, Mangoes , Chilies, and other food items but not your scooter or things on it. In the west, you never leave anything anywhere.

Some people go to tourist areas intending to steal, as they know tourists are likely to be high or drunk, and not as aware. Still better to be safe than sorry, not leaving anything where temptation can occur.

Interestingly I also lived in Texas a couple of decades ago. That's probably where and why I got to apperciate aircon so much as outside is usually so hot you spend 99% of the time indoors air conditioned. Open air bar?! Hell no. Give me an airconditioned club any day. The only reason I would ever go to an open air bar is if everything else is closed, literally.
