Anyone have experience of the BYD Atto 1 Premium?

Considering one as a second car, mainly for shorter trips, as we already have a diesel SUV for our longer work trips for farm visits.

Only sat in one at the BITEC motorshow, but thought it it was surprisingly roomy for a small car, and a good price.

It's all a scam... there are fields and fields of parked-up zero-milage cars in China they can't sell. It's a giant Ponzi scheme and buyers will be left high and dry. I would just buy a second-hand Japanese pickup truck or Toyota instead until it all pans out.

The Bangkok Post even has a story on it today but that news article is behind their paywall. But here's a 25 Sep 2026 article from the Thai Enquirer on EV subsidies possible repayment (not by individuals but by some EV manufacturers/importers).

If this ever happens it would probably place serious financial stress on some companies and no doubt create long, drawn-out court cases. And I'm not sure if it would result in some EV price increases or decreases.....decreases because of some EV companies trying to raise cash fast because of financial stress.

But whatever happens it will no doubt be done on Thai time (take years to resolve).

With pending enforcement of subsidy rules, you'd think this end of year auto show would be the last big discounted price push, and price war would ease up.

But I thought that of last year's auto show, and BYD is still keeping the competition in the war.

Still contemplating another EV, though scratched the RD6 idea, as ECON lacks a couple features, and have no plans on spending 900k for a 2nd vehicle. Urban is a front runner, if anything. Would like the wife to have a 'Lifetime warranty' before mine expires and I crap out. It is a frivilous, probably unnecessary expense ... but 🙄

Old tech LFP with the ZS, and degradation has been ~9.% over 4 years. With quite a bit, ~40%, charging done fast, while battery at warmest temp, with AC running, if that matters. AI states minor if any affect, as BMS will warm the battery if cold anyway. Only minimal if all charging done by fast chargers.

Tick Tock folks, low prices won't last forever ... until extended next year 🤣

Yea, I expect some really good end of year deals.

But IMO so far for 2026 it's been a tame year pricecut-wise "when compared to 2024 and 2025" when the price war was in full swing...a scorched earth campaign!

And no one should fall for "you better buy before 1 Jan 2027" sales tactic because big excise tax increases are coming in 2027. Excise tax increases are still in the discussion stage and whatever increase is possibly approved/implemented will surely be staggered over several years with plenty of advance notice before the first implementation date in order to keep EV manufacturers/importers from going ballistic.

Yes, same main components, but true lifetime warranty, that stays with the car, not the first owner, so resale prices should hold better, as the MG4 has shown.

For me, if buying, as stated, just something for her to knock around town in, as she won't be doing O&A, and only does them now, because I do. Enjoys while being out there, but if I didn't plan them, she'd be content just staying home.

Not real concern about the ZS range being an issue, in the future, as our bladder & stomach range is usually <200 kms. But in <10 yrs time, the sum of parts will be worth more than the car. If just just half the battery's SOC, that's 25kWh+ to be added to the solar, which by that time, may actually be needed.

If having a spare Urban, then silly to insure and maintain the ZS at near 15 yrs old. Unless an oops, the battery surely will outlast the actually car itself. My thinking anyway.

Then the Urban would outlast her, as she's 50 already. I prefer to plan her auto needs before I crap out. Leave it up to her, and she'd buy the IM6, spending 1M more than she would need or use.
