On Friday 7 September, we went for a night near the Cambodian border and on Saturday 8 went to visit the PREAH VIHEAR TEMPLE juts accross the border but reached from the Thai side.

On Sunday 9 afternoon high fever 39,5 dizzy, cough, feel very bad

On Monday 10 morning get toKhun Han Hospital, directly taken temperature, pulse and given paracetamol to ease the fever.

Seen by doctor within 30 minutes, given amoxilin antibiotics just in case it was not dengue (cough) and paracetamol. Told to sleep as much as possible and come back on 12 fro blood test.

On Wednesday 12 morning, fever still up and down 37,5 to 39,5. Blood test showed pallet count down advised to stay in but told couls saty home and rest, nomore antibiotics continue paracetamol.

On Friday 14 morning, new blood test, pallets slightly up and fever not as high. Told will recover soon.

Asked to detail case after which public adress system in village blaring that the local farang had dengue and that all should be careful and take care of the mosquitoes around their houses !

On Sunday 16 Head doctor visit village house to amke sure local farang is 'ok'

Had to get back to Japan on Monday and am now nealry fully recoverred.

The cost of the doctor's 3 visits, medication and blood tests (2) came to 355 baht. The medicla certificate cost 200 baht !

I have only praise forthe way this local government hospital handled this painful experience, very efficiently, cheaply and with compassion.

I am not sure I would feel safe for major heart surgery there but certainly for a local disease they are tops !

I was looking to visit that temple in October. I know it's at the Cambodia border (actually, it's in Cambodia since it was decided by an international Court or the UN many years ago). Is it so dangerous and common to get Dengue there?

Thanks for any information. I might skip that trip!

Hi.

It is a very very hard long HOT walk (more than 1.5km) from the parking area on the Thai side to the last temple building all the time going up on the Cambodian side without much chance ofbeing ableto find some shadow.

Make sure you takeplenty of drinking water, sunscreen, big hat. if Iknew what to expect (long walk in the sun) I would have started at 7am and not 11am !

Cost is a factor too (20baht for Thai 400 baht for farang and 30 baht for the car on Thai side then a further 250 baht for the farang on the Cambo side) As I already paid togoin I did not want to go back and get better prepared.

I do not think I got the mosquitoes bites during that climb but more during the evening hour 1 or 2 days earlier.

If you're frightened of Dengue Fever then you should avoid anywhere in SE Asia during the rain season. You can catch it in Singapore never mind Camobodia - don't worry about it, go and enjoy your trip.

Hi

I would agree with the above, but it was one of the best 'days out' I'v had since living in Surin (that it did'nt involve beer! :D ) I think the walk/climb was worth it just for the wonderful views/camera shots available, let alone the actual temple. I had no probs with bugs, I did'nt have to visit anywhere, I caught Dengue at home ! :o:D

:D
