Crime Bombing Suspect Confesses to Deadly Attack on Paramilitary Forces in Pattani

A suspect has confessed to planting the improvised explosive device (IED) that killed one paramilitary officer and injured three others in a deadly attack in Pattani province on 2 June 2025. At a press briefing held at the Internal Security Operations Command Region 4 Forward Headquarters in Sirindhorn Camp, Yarang district, Colonel Kiattisak Neewong, the command’s spokesperson, provided details of the suspect’s confession and ongoing investigation. The explosion occurred in Ban Naprao, Panare district, Pattani, targeting a patrol unit from Ranger Company 4214, part of the 42nd Ranger Regiment Task Force. The blast killed Lieutenant Apichart Phaphan and severely injured Sergeant Major First Class Sulkiflee Maideng 45 and Rangers Praidre Yusa 33 and Masufi Waeteh 28. Following the attack, authorities arrested Mr. Tueburi Wamae, a person of interest, and brought him in for questioning. Under interrogation, Mr. Wamae confessed to being part of the cell responsible for the attack. He admitted to assembling the explosive device and transporting it to the site where it was deployed. Colonel Kiattisak stated that the suspect had cooperated fully, even demonstrating how the bomb was constructed and leading officers to the location where it was planted. Investigations are continuing to identify further links to other incidents and members of the insurgent network. He reiterated that all operations had been conducted under strict adherence to the rule of law and full respect for human rights. “We are committed to transparency and accountability. All suspects are treated fairly, and their dignity and legal rights are fully respected,” Colonel Kiattisak said. The incident has reignited concerns about continuing unrest in Thailand’s southern border provinces, where separatist group Barisan Revolusi Nasional (BRN) is believed to be behind a renewed wave of attacks, aimed at pressuring the government into formal negotiations. In a related development, the civil rights network JASAD issued a statement urging authorities to uphold transparency and human rights standards when operating under special laws. They called for the prompt return of seized property not linked to criminal activity and equal treatment of all detainees under Thai criminal law. Fire Fire Extinguished at Rice Bran Factory in Nakhon Pathom as Workers Scramble to Save Stock
Picture courtesy of Kaoded A fire occurred in a rice bran factory in Nakhon Pathom’s Don Tum District on 10 July, prompting a dramatic emergency response from local firefighters and more than 50 factory workers who raced to remove over 50 tonnes of rice bran to safety. The fire broke out at Porncharoendee Factory, located on a 20-rai plot in Lam Hae subdistrict, reportedly sparked by metal friction inside the facility’s milling equipment. The heat is believed to have caused a spark, which fell onto a tarpaulin near the rice bran chute, igniting the flammable bran below. Over 10 fire trucks from the Sam Ngam Municipality, Lam Hae Subdistrict Administrative Organisation, and Suksalanukroh Foundation in Nakhon Pathom responded to the scene. Due to limited visibility inside the factory and thick, choking smoke, crews installed portable water pumps and external hose-lines to contain and extinguish the blaze. Factory owner Mr. Nopporn Laopasi, a prominent entrepreneur in the animal feed and rice bran industry, quickly mobilised two bulldozers to assist in removing burning material from inside the plant. Workers formed a human chain to help carry out rice bran sacks and machinery parts, minimising losses. “We believe the fire was caused by metal parts rubbing together, which led to sparks falling onto the tarp. It quickly ignited,” Mr. Nopporn told reporters. “Thankfully, no one was hurt. The quick action of the workers and the rescue teams helped prevent a much worse outcome.” Authorities estimate the damage to be over 100,000 baht. No injuries were reported. An inspection of the factory’s electrical and mechanical systems has been ordered to determine the exact cause and to prevent future incidents.
