I live in Pattaya, having moved here from Canada recently. I have Adobe Acrobat 6.0 Standard installed in my computer. I went to the Adobe website to try to purchase an upgrade to version 8.0, and I found it impossible to do so. I tried to download it from the North America store, but if I enter my Thai address, it re-directs to me to the Asia-Pacific store. I suppose I could enter a fake Canadian address, but then when they ask for my credit card information, it will show a Thai address. I was not able to download it from the Asia-Pacific store (nor could I have it shipped). I suppose shipping software by mail to Thailand might be risky anyhow? In any event, I talked with Adobe Asia-Pacific customer service and was informed that the ONLY way I can obtain the upgrade was to visit an authorized Adobe re-seller in Thailand, most of which are in Bangkok and none of which are in Pattaya! I was told that there was no way to download the upgrade! Seems strange in this internet age! Does anyone know how I can obtain the upgrade without travelling to Bangkok? I presume that I can obtain a pirated version, but I have had very mixed results with pirated software (not to mention the issue of legality). David.

I don't know your requirements but would suggest you download and try this very inexpensive PDF software - I have been very impressed by it - nothing lost if you don't like it or does not meet your needs.

Thanks. I am wondering if there would be any incompatability issues between the programme you recommend and Adobe Acrobat. I need to be able to open PDF files created in Adobe Acrobat, add my comments, and send the file back.

The only really big difference between Adobe acrobat and 3rd party versions is the ability

to create custom page sizes, which you can in adobe but not in the others.

I am interested as to why you would need the upgrade to 8.0? It gives no advantages that I can see

over 6.0.

I just checked and PDFill offers 38 international standard page sizes and full custom size ability in all types of measurements. This is a very professional program at a fraction of the Adobe cost.

A couple of times now, I have received the following message when trying to open a PDF file in Acrobat: this files has been created with a newer version of Acrobat which is not compatible with yours (I am paraphrasing). Seemed strange to me. I often have issues with Adobe Acrobat and Reader, especially when trying to open up a PDF file within my browser while on a website. Recently, my Acrobat program disappeared from my computer and I had to reinstall it. May have been related to my installing updates for Reader. I try to keep them in different folders now.

I have seen that and believe it referred to new form fill. Old Adobe form fills can not save date entered but there seems to be a new form fill option that allows forms made with it to be saved. Have not noticed any problem opening even with the warning.

I had a problem with the new Firefox 3 and had to select tools/options/applications and select Adobe to open inside Firefox (a click select in application column).

I don't know about the original poster, but I too am considering upgrading to Adobe 8.0.  I had used 7.0 on my laptop, but when I built a new desktop earlier this year I installed Vista Ultimate and it is my understanding from research that 7.0 is not Vista compatible, but 8.0 is.  I've seen 8.0 at TUKCOM, copy version of course, but have yet to purchase it.
