End Of Social Welfare

Memorial Hospital Stops Social Welfare

Members of the Human Recourses Club of Pattaya together with Deputy Mayor Weerawat Kahkai held a meeting on the 7th December at the

Montien Hotel, Pattaya, to discuss about complaints from members of the club concerning an announcement from the Memorial Hospital that they are ending contracts concerning Social Insurance as from the 1st January. This will affect many people who up until now can receive free medical treatment (in most cases up to 10,000 baht) at participating hospitals. The reason given by the Hospital for suspending the service was because the Hospital is not receiving substantial amounts of compensation funds from the Government to cover the service costs of medical treatment.

Farangs take note: expect more of the brother needs surgery calls, need big money ASAP, to be REAL.

This has been going on for quite some time, hospitals have been complaining of being seriously underfunded since Thaksin was in office.

This is one of about 200 hospitals who have decided not to accept social welfare clients. As SBK says it is an ongoing stoush between the hospitals and the authorities who pay them about the amount they are paid for services and how long it takes to get paid. If some of the times for payment are to be believed they have good reason to complain. It seems they are making good the threat to not accept new clients, existing clients will continue to be treated if they are keeping to the "party line" that was published in the Bangkok Post a week or so ago.
