Can anyone recommend a good dentist in Chiang mai?

The only one I know of is in the soi behind Amari Rincome.....Happy Smile :o I think it's called.

Any reports good or bad on that one?

I'm next in Chiang mai end of December, staying at the Rincome, so Happy Smile would be convenient.

UK dentists expensive, so can wait.

I always use the clinic opposite Wat Suan Dok. Entrance to the parking lot is directly opposite the little hilltribe handicrafts shop next to the entrance to Wat Suan Dok.

Excellent clinic but low prices. (Well, not rock-bottom like some of the most ancient of market-side dentist shops, but still close enough. :o

Cheers,

That'll do for me Chanchao.

It'll definitely be cheaper than UK prices anyway.

I'm not sure whether they wear a mask here for hygiene purposes,

or so you won't recognise them........daylight robbery :o

Oh by the way in your restaurant review, I haven't seen one for Huan Huay Kaew.

Is there one????

Thanks

Actually yes there is, but I hid it. :o

..........

Well okay, if you insist, it's here:

(I put it there trying to see if the Coppermine software would be easier to just quickly post a review with some pics even though the software is just intended as a picture gallery. Not sure if I can tweak the layout easily. Probably not. )

That looks absolutely superb!!

Mid morning here in UK & my mouth's watering for that Thai taste.

Aroy mak mak.

Great surroundings aswell, we're going there as soon as we return.

Last time we went to a great place towards Sankhampaeng for lunch.

Can't remember the name off the top of my head. Old wooden structure, beautiful ornamental pond & garden. The owner has an old Morgan car.

Delicious food in lovely surroundings.

I'll find out the name if you don't know, wasn't cheap for Thailand. But well worth it.

How did we get on to this after starting the thread on dentists :o

Sorry my fault.

Cheers

The Grace Clinic, which advertises in all the mags, is my choice. World class and ultra modern. You get what you pay for. I went to the clinic my Thai friend goes to just for cleaning to save money, and I have never had a rougher time, water everywhere and he even used the sonic method.

The lady owner is a clinical professor of denistry and has patients fly in from overseas for their dental work. Her x-ray machine is unbelievable, it moves around you face in a sweeping movement and does the whole mouth in one sweep.

She is a crown specialist, but does general denistry as well. She has other professors who come in on a as needed basis. I am sure you can find cheaper.

Their cleaning is 1200 baht, which I will gladly pay over the 400 Baht "rodeo" experience I had at another clinic. My recollection is that my dental work cost about 25% of what it costs in the U.S.

You owe it to yourself to visit the clinic and see the prices prominently displayed along with a picture of each dentist and english speaking staff.

It is on a soi off the extention of the super highway, behind central shopping center, down from Teka and just south of Amari Rincon Hotel corner.

I'll do that as I'm in Chiang mai for a while. I know roughly where you mean.

Any ideas by the way how quickly they'll be able to look at me......same day, within a few days....?

That's basically all I need check up & clean.

Thanks

I sometimes go to Dentaland, near Grace Clinic (1 or 2 soi further away from the Amari). Similar prices than Grace and actually some of the dentists exercise at both clinics.

I would recommend to book well in advance if you have a specific requirement and even just for a check-up as some time you get an appointment only within a week or two. I think they have websites.

Khun Maw Supachai at the Big Smile :o clinic (adjacent to Amari Rincome) is excellent. I've visited him twice and he extracted my wife's wisdom tooth two years ago. Because it was severely impacted, he brought in the area's chief dental surgeon to assist at no extra charge. He also did two crowns for her about four years ago. Excellent work.

Le Grand Lanna, I think. Never had dinner there though, but I've seen it and looks awesome. (And expensive! :o

Ah....Le Grand Lanna. That's the one. Well worth it, maybe for a special occasion or something Chanchao.

It was beautiful for lunch & I'd imagine more so for dinner with the lights.

My wife loved the toilets.....must be a woman thing :D

Another place we've lunched at was as Ban nai fan when we were looking at houses. Not sure if the restaurant had a name, but great food in posh surroundings.

A little lacking in atmosphere being as we were the only ones there.

Perhaps a few more people visit in the evenings.

Hey this isn't fair. talking about these fantastic places to eat, while I'm in the UK with ham sandwiches for lunch :o

Big Smile would certainly be the most convenient NaiGreg.

Reassuring about their standard of work.

I have their email address, so I'll contact them.

Thanks.

Have used Dentaland since they opened. My children followed Dr Nik when he moved from the Ram.

Not the cheapest in CM but I have only good things to say about them. Dr Nik must also be the best paediactric dentist on the planet. My kids even look forward to their visits to him and, yes, they have had treatment, not just checkups.

I'm surprised nobody has mentioned the Dental Hospital on the Superhighway about 1 to 2 km from Rincome Intersection, next to the Medical Hospital (inside frontage road). A little difficult to get to with the construction.

I had excellent results from several extractions and two partial dentures. The old man who started the clinic and trained all the dentists there, studied in Boston at Tufts. The dentures were 3200 baht and 5000 baht, extractions no more than 500 baht. They'll charge about 100 for x-rays, which are a last resort. It's as painless as dentistry can be (I've had over 40 extractions, counting baby teeth). My dentist was always prompt, and the old man took me on an emergency once (extremely difficult extraction, what with the infection I got, but he knew what to do). No complications, no problem with hygience, etc.

Phone number for appoointments: 053-411158. Most of the staff speak decent dental English.

Many thanks all I'll contact a couple of the places prior to coming out there.

Kids looking forward to visiting the dentist........wow about as likely as a dry Songkran :o

Good tip re prices - does anyone else have prices to quote?

Ive just got a quote of 5,500 baht per tooth for a bridge, plus 60 thou (yep that's 60,000 baht) for a single implant.

The implant 's a new one on me, but maybe Ive been here too long & skipping out on dental care to be quite a bit out of touch.

Think that I will definitely go for the 5,500 baht a tooth bridge, & pass on the implant (I'll need two of them.)

Cost so far: 400 baht for 2 x-rays & temporary attachment of a crown.

Place: Kongkiet Dental Clinic. 277 Changmoi Road. Had Dr Kongkiet himself, speaks good English & certainly seemed to know what he was / is doing. Strong recommendation (so far.)

I'll stand corrected on my price quote: 500 baht is the usual minimum for an extraction, 800 baht is the max. That includes anastheisa. Hadly ever do they x-ray, but that's maybe 100-150 baht. Chiang Mai Dental Hospital, on the superhighway near its beginning (in the construction zone, inside frontage road). Followup appointments are usually free, and they can prescribe and dispense pain medicine and antibiotic medicine on the premises.

Just a short update for anyone who might be remotely interested.

Two dental appointments down the road & both the cost & pain has been minimal.

One: Clean & an extraction = 1,000 baht. 1 hour.

Two: Temporay tooth mould = 1,500 baht. 20 minutes.

Next fitting the temp tooth.

I can't believe it's going so well. Been totally painless & fast so far.

The clinic is quiet, cool & clean. Almost like being in a little oasis paradise.

No pollution, & only missing a sea breeze & a little harmonica music...
