Hi Guys

I've just renewed my car insurance - Ayudhya, done through Pattaya Honda - as I have done for the last couple of years. When I asked the nice lady at Honda where was my new windscreen sticker she informed me that I don't need one as it is no longer a legal requirement to display one.

Can anyone confirm that this is the case? I don't fancy arguing the toss with the BiB next time I get stopped. Always carry copies of the car documents, of course, so maybe this is now sufficient?

She is correct. That requirement was stopped about a year ago or so.

The CTPL (Government compulsory insurance) sticker was phased out last April. You will now get a paper receipt when you pay for the CTPL insurance which you need to keep safe as you will need to produce it when you pay for your Vehicle Tax.

Thanks guys.

Yes, I have the receipt. Previously used to be a separate paper slip that you needed when re-taxing.

Can I assume this is the same for motorcycles.

I did not receive a insurance sticker either on a new Honda motorcycle that came with insurance but do have insurance papers.

I was just getting ready to try my Thai communication skills and ask the dealer why I did not get a sticker.

This thread probably saved me 2 hours if for m/c also

just renewed my insurance today - no sticker - but was assured that none was needed anymore. Will keep it in the glovebox incase any of the BIB's require to see it!

Theoretically shouldn't be an issue since one cannot renew a vehicle registration with an accompanying receipt of insurance but as always, TIT.

you are right of course, but the issue could be that they are out of sync. My rego comes up in November, and my insurance (inc compulsory third party) expires in Jan. So I theoretically could renew in Nov and then let my insurance lapse, going around uninsured from end of Jan onwards.

Boy, you guys know how to confuse. Let me get this straight. The Compulsory third party insurance is still required and payable but they just don't issue a sticker anymore. So you have to show the receipt in order to get the annual road tax updated?

From what I understand from a Thai friend is that there was a lot of ‘photo copy’ stickers…….. now you cannot get the vehicle tax without paid insurance, as in many places around the world.

I thought that wasn't supposed to happen anymore? A few years back, I had to pay what was presented to me as a mandatory pro-rated portion of a year on my insurance so as to bring the vehicle insurance period into sync with my registration period.
