Foreign Language Romantic Music

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I'm an incurable romantic where music is concerned.

Love, except English of course, French, Dutch, Italian in fact all romantic music.

Hope that there are some among you a bit like me, and I'll start of with a French Canadian

guy by the name of Garou. Near the end of the song the girl in the video gives a little smile,

makes the hairs on the back of my neck stand up.

Hope you like it : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ste5St6FOg0

Come on open your souls and show that romanticism is not dead yet. :o

cheers

There is nothing sexier than a black girl speaking english with a french accent.

I had a gf years ago from the islands that had these attributes....oh and big titties.

there's ol' Charles Aznevour and Javier Soliz...I fell in love with my ex-wife with some mexican guy singing 'Besame Mucho'...

never could stand the wailing histronics of 'The Umbrellas of Cherbourg'...sumpin' weird about a whole film with sung dialog...

what about ol' Luciano and 'Nessun Dorma'?...I love to watch my beloved sleeping, don't you? one of my nieces who is clever observed me watching my wife asleep then, at the first opportunity languidly pretended to fall asleep where I could see her...captured my heart and now takes no responsibility for her actions :o

I've been stung too many times by getting hooked with my emotional interpretation of a foreign language song without knowing the words....and then....at some later date....I find out what the words mean and its totally disgusting that they would ruin my song by putting those ridiculous lyrics to it.....and the worst part is that the emotional intensity is never the same afterwords.

Jeez I hate it when that happens!!!!!

This ever happen to any of you?

Federico Aubele - Postales

Eros Ramazzotti :o

If you like Eros then I'm sure you'll like this one also:

Laura Pausini & Andrea Bocelli : Vivere

There's a better version where both sing in Italian (more raw emotion) but I couldn't find it on youtube. (have it in MP3)

Enjoy

It is not a romantic song, but this is an Iraqi song which talks about loving and losing family members and friends that becomes unbearable, it is for the beloved ones we had lost or forced to leave behind in Saddam's regime or during this past 5 years from the invasion and the extremist that were brought along with them to fight in Iraq as a substitute war-yard where is only the poor helpless Iraqis are the losers.

BTW, the gal is a new shia Muslim singer. The guy is an old famous Christian singer in Iraq since the 80's but he used to be a romantic singer with many famous hits and successful concerts in Baghdad and around the world.

WORLD; please mercy me and feel my agony....

OK. here is a romantic song for the same Iraqi singer (Haitham Yousif). It was shot in 1995 as I remember, in the streets of Bagdad. Funny to remember ,most of the gals and young women were raged from anger (not jealousy) that the director had chosen an (ugly) model to act in that clip :o .

thanks for sharing the music on this thread everyone

zaza...you no doubt already know from our past conversations how romantic I think Arabic can sound....but do have to say the second one posted despite what you say about it being a romantic one..it just doesnt do it for me

I am a bit stupid. but if any one can post the you tube song of FRANCIS CABREL DE PALMAS version of Lady Darbanville, You shall be surprised by the voices, guitar whatevers and the loveliness of the song in their way (french accents) of singing it.

I love french and italian songs myself.

Enjoy and happy Spring!!!

I get very upset because i speak english and french.

And it anoyyes me that other people cannt understand my languages and i cannot understand theirs. I need to try and so do they etc. etc.

If you would like to be moved try :-

"Au fond du temple saint" from "The Pearl Fishers * Les Pecheurs de Perles" by Bizet

Best version (IMO) is Jussi Bjoerling & Robert Merrill.

Zurga, leader of the Ceylonese (as it was known then) pearl fishers, and his friend Nadir are reunited after a long seperation caused by their love for the priestess Leila. They recall her beauty and charm but realise she threatens their friendship, which they vow to uphold.

Eros Ramazzotti :o

No worries here, dear. :D

I used to listen to French and Spanish songs with my old brothers when I was young.

Even without understanding a single word :D ,yet;I still find any song from Kholio Iglesias so hot & romantic, same as Mireille Mathieu , Dalida songs.

BTW, what about Fuyumi Sakamoto, the Japanese singer? you can touch skies & clouds while listening to her songs.

His name is JULIO!!! sorry thats the father his name is - cant remember...................... Tired - ENRIQUE

I must admit is nice to be able to understand the words of a french or spanish song - just adds to it!!!

Late jazz songstress Monica Zetterlund interprets a Swedish folk song, Visa från Utanmyra:

Only once did I see that man

my eyes became as enchanted

Like the wind he was walking

swift and fearless, sure on victory.

He looked at me and he smiled.

He did see my rose and smiled,

then he walked past me.

But he walked past me.

Only once did I see that man

my eyes became as enchanted

Like the rays of the sun he shone,

all my life he came to change.

He touched me and he smiled,

He took my rose and he smiled,

then he passed me by

then he passed me by.

Only once did I see that man

my eyes became as enchanted

He is such a man, that his hand

has the power to make life complete

he broke my resistance and smiled

he broke off my rose and then smiled

then he passed me by

then he passed me by.

We Swedes sure aren't the most romantic people in the world... but sometimes the silent spaces in between speak louder than words.

Patsy, deary,

Kholio Iglesias = Julio Iglesias = Enrique's father (I guess :D ) .

We are talking on the same person here ,aren't we? :o:D:D

"Nessun Dorma"

Calaf's Aria from Puccini's "Turandot"

Italian Text

Nessun dorma! Nessun dorma!

Tu pure, o, Principessa,

nella tua fredda stanza,

guardi le stelle

che tremano d'amore

e di speranza.

Ma il mio mistero è chiuso in me,

il nome mio nessun saprà!

No, no, sulla tua bocca lo dirò

quando la luce splenderà!

Ed il mio bacio scioglierà il silenzio

che ti fa mia!

(Il nome suo nessun saprà!...

e noi dovrem, ahime, morir!)

Dilegua, o notte!

Tramontate, stelle!

Tramontate, stelle!

All'alba vincerò!

vincerò, vincerò!

English Translation

Nobody shall sleep!...

Nobody shall sleep!

Even you, o Princess,

in your cold room,

watch the stars,

that tremble with love and with hope.

But my secret is hidden within me,

my name no one shall know...

No!...No!...

On your mouth I will tell it when the light shines.

And my kiss will dissolve the silence that makes you mine!...

(No one will know his name and we must, alas, die.)

Vanish, o night!

Set, stars! Set, stars!

At dawn, I will win! I will win! I will win!

You can pick your own favourite tenor but the late great "Big Lucy" was hard to beat in his prime.

Now one for the Blokes - How about a duet for 2 Ladies

Flower Duet From "Lakme" by Delibes

Ah! descendons

Ensemble!

Translation:

Under a dome of white jasmine

With the roses entwined together

On a river bank covered with flowers laughing in the morning

Gently floating on it's charming risings

On the river's current

On the shining waves

One hand reaches

Reaches for the bank

Where the spring sleeps and

The birds, the birds sing.

Under a dome of white jasmine

Ah! calling us

Together!

Under a dome of white jasmine

With the roses entwined together

On a river bank covered with flowers laughing in the morning

Let us descend together

Gently floating on it's charming risings,

On the river's current

On the shining waves,

One hand reaches,

Reaches for the bank,

Where the spring sleeps,

And the birds, the birds sing.

Under a dome of white jasmine

Ah! calling us

Together!

Onzestan

Sorry. I have not heard anything about that singer before. I had viewed few songs for him while ago though.

Unfortunately he's long gone. He's written some very famous songs of which "Ne me quitte pas" is his most known,

made famous with the Shirley Bassey interpretation in English " If you go away " wrongly attributed to (and wrongly claimed to be his by) Rod MacKuen. Another famous song was "Quand on a que l'amour" - If you have nothing but Love -

"UNA FURTIVA LAGRIMA" From "The Elixir of Love" Donizetti

(A Furtive Tear)

Una furtiva lagrima

Negli occhi suoi spunto:

Quelle festosee giovani

Invidiar sembro.

Che piu cercando io vo?

M'ama, lo vedo.

Un solo instante i palpiti

Del suo bel cor sentir!

I miei sospir, confondere

Per poco a' suoi sospir!

Cielo, si puo morir!

Di piu non chiedo.

Sung by nearly everybody from Enrico Caruso to Nana Mouskouri (even Michael Bolton !)

I do a pretty good rendition after opening my second boddle of vodka of the day...the third line comes out a bit stangulated, however (the stepdaughter clasps her ears and pretends to barf)... :o
