SO I tend to stay on the side of safety (be it psycolocigal only) and stick to the things I know and trust, Heinies and Marlboro.

Jesus tukes, you don't strike me as a "Marlboro Man" type. Camel no filter maybe, B&H (do they still make those?) more likely! :o

Spoilt today, am sat in Gullivers Pattaya with a freezing cold San Mig Lite :o

when back at home recently after some shopping in town stopped off at the bus station to get some lunch and had a Chang fer 'old times sake'...made me retch. We walked home an' I poured meself a vodka an' naam som...They sell vodka in town now after opening the new tescos...

i like only two brands of Beer. one is Port and the other one is Sherry.

oops! forgot that Beer which is called Black Label.

Asahi. Japanese beer brewed here in Thailand. Crisp, clean and almost no hangover..

Great with spicy food as well.

Smifffs (wif 3 effs) is about my favourite here now that Black Tiger has disappeared :D (.....pause for reminiscent moment)

Have noticed a few placed with Newcastle Brown Ale, but wish they had Newcastle Amber instead - "Broon" does my head in and I usually have a hangover before the second one is finished :D

When Austhaied is buying, I'll drink Heineken :D , otherwise I tend to stick with Leo, Lao, or at a push, Tiger

1st 6 months here, used to be able to do 12-20 large Chang per night (but bars were 24 hour then) and did many's a 72-hour binge with a certain short rotund Antipodean, but nowadays 2 big Changs and I'm anyone's :o

CrowBoy - As of this moment Chang may be winning the poll but hijacking my (drunken) inspired thread is going to cost you at least a Beer Lao in Tuskers! :o

Well I reckon the whole thing's rigged. I find it hard to believe that so many people drink that dogsbrew Chang. What ever happened to taste? Folks you can't go wrong with a refreshing, ice cold Tiger after a hard day at the beach. AND it's a very good appetiser for a main course of Jim Beam. What could you chase Chang down with - lao khao? :o

Have to agree with this. Can't see the attraction of Chang - it's pish!

I can't drink Chang - it gives me a vicious hangover but taste is in the mouth of the beholder. One of the many great things about Thailand is the ever developing range of beers now available on the market. When I first came here it was Singha or Lao Khao - I made my choice and stuck to it. Heinekin I find too sweet and Leo very harsh. Beer Lao I don't like but it is becoming quite popular in CM amongst the expat community. Cheers and Archer are just abominations sold cheap to Thais and Farung on a budget with no understanding of what makes a decent beer.

As many of you probably are aware, I rarely drink beer and if I do on occasions, it's purely to be sociable.

I'm therefore not an expert in this field so have not voted but I do tend to like a glass of Archa or "Chang" from time to time.

So you are denying that this is your shophouse then?

I agree about cheers.

Where I am I have a choice of Chang, Leo, Archa or Heineken.

Heineken is overpriced horse piss, and not easy to get from my usual suppliers. Chang gives me a headache and makes me fall over too quickly.

So I'm left with Leo or Archa ..................

Totster :o

P.s - I'll pretty much drink any beer on availability, but not cheers.. EVER, and Beer Isaan only at a push

I'd definitely clink glasses to that. I know I am possibly the lone female on this thread, but you guys can't be serious about Chang - that stuff must be like drinking napalm - it's disgusting :o

Used to drink it all the time after I found it here in Isaan. Unfortunately, although I could handle the taste, the strength brought on prostrate problems so I moved onto Archa when it was introduced.

Planned "Isan" beer angers northeasterners

Pro-Buddhist activists and groups against the consumption of alcohol in the northeastern region are crying foul over plans by Boon Rawd Brewery Co., Ltd., which produces Singha beer ,to sell a new product under the name “Isan” beer.

The protesters gathered this morning, calling on one of Thailand’s beer giants not to associate the name Isan, which refers to Thais who hail from the northeastern region, with a vice such as beer.

“We have already written a document to the governor of Khon Kaen province and also to the managers of Boon Rawd Brewery, urging them to reconsider the name,”said Niroot Suttha, Chairman of an anti-alcohol group.

He added: “We would be happy if they chose another name that was not directly connected with the Isan people’s way of living and their culture.”

The protesters threatened to hand a petition to the new government if their calls were not met.

Yes it's certainly a precious little storm in a beer glass. Singha had the foresight of a wee bit of clever marketing aimed at a specific geographical market, possibly in response to Beer Lao's foothold (massive sales growth in the past couple of years). My money would be on the brewery, but in Thailand you never really know...

Other overtakes Chang, probably because you missed the best beer (Leo) off the poll! :o

That would be worth trying!

And filled with many a rut

But Oh, we'll find it drier still

(Yes, 'pubs is shut' is how it goes.) Good one to trot out around election time in th.
