Need A Good "no Pain" Dentist

Anywhere on the island where I can find a good dentist - price not really a problem, who can either - knock out the wife to get the root canal redone - or who might be able to do a relatively painless extraction? An oral surgeon?

She's afraid to have anyone even touch it at the moment, but she is miserable enough that if I can find someone decent to fix it - she will give in in the next few days . . .

Go see Dr Pensri Upatising at Suan Luang Clinic, just north of the entrance to Suan Luang Park on Chao Fa East Rd. I am not sure if she does extractions as I have never needed one, but she speaks English very well and will send you to the right person if she can't do it herself.

Sit down, you will be shocked. I use Mission Hospital's dental office. They sapeak English (the dentists, not the receptionist) and they have always been considerate to my pain fear, etc. For extractions, I think is 400 baht.

For the past year I have been mulling the thought of either a tooth gap for 400 baht or a root canal at 4800 plus crowns.

Still do not know what to do. ha ha

Was talking to a Thai aquantance the other day about hospitals and he also recommended using Mission Hospital to me - cheap but safe, decent level of service he said. I can't confirm this is the best place to go for dental, but he was definately being sincere at the time!

Cheers,

I use the lady at Happy Smile and she is great. Completely board certified.

If you get to Chalong circle and take the road toward Kata, she is in a Plaza about 50 meters up on the left.

Granted I just do cleanings, but she is professional, speaks English and if she can't do the procedure will definitely point you in the right direction.

Subman . . . do you know the office hours for Dr. Pensri?

not sure, but the numbers are: 076-222579; 076210830

You would need to call for an appointment first.

Mission Hospital... Let me give you some landmarks. On the same road to the Airport **from** Phuket Town (Thepsakatri road). Same area is Volvo, Toyota and IT Mall. Mission is across from the Toyota dealership.

Another vote for Phuket Dental Center (www.phuketdentalcenter.com) next to Bangkok Hospital.

I have been to a lot of dentists. NONE compare to this man (Dr. Prasert Theplong) He explains everything, (speaks excellent English) has a wonderful staff (English speaking), very modern equipment, and always seems to be in a good mood.

I wouldn't go anywhere else.

The perfect root canal specialist you will find in Central www.dentcentralthailand.com the homepage is under construction, but the map & contact (phone & fax) is correct also the team photo.

It´s not the cheapest clinic but I think the best and I know it because I had the treatment there myself.

The endodotist comes every weekend from Bangkok where she works as Ass. Prof. Dr. at the Mahidol University for 35 years. Also other dentists from Phuket send the patients to her !

Here 2 links I found :

My girlfriend (Thai) was in the Mission for remove the stone because it´s cheap there but she will never visit the dentist there again...even if she have to pay more (you remember she is Thai) so far about the Mission dentists.

Read up on the pro's and con's of teeth whitening before you go ahead - the process works well for some folks but it is age (and other factor) dependent and can make your teeth substantially more brittle.

thanks I will have a google and read as I have not done the back ground work as yet just know even without smoking my teeth need a little work but its prob down to age.

Since we are on a dentist thread and I dont want to start a new one, anyone can recommend me a good place that's not too expensive for wisdom teeth removal?? If you got the price at same time per teeth would be nice to know. Oh ya it must be a place that they put you to sleep, dont want to be awake when they start removing those teeth, even if I have to pay extra for that.

Tool84, I'm looking for the same thing as you are.

I need 4 wisdom teeth removed, and want a place that will put me under for the entire procedure. All 4 teeth are impacted (under the gumline) and the process will require significant cutting...

Unfortunately, every place I talk to tells me the same thing: "no need sleep, just local anaesthetic, it is okay for you I think"

Also, they all ask ME if I want to have them removed--I haven't found a dentist that will tell me whether or not I need them removed, why, and the health risks of not removing them. They say, "You have teeth here? Okay, I remove, no problem." Yes, some dentists have not known that I had wisdom teeth until I told them...

And so, I have refused to let any dentist touch my wisdom teeth. But considering the cost difference, I'd like to have them removed by someone competent before I leave the country.

------

Based on the forum posts above, I'm now looking at 4 places:

- Bangkok Hospital

- Mission Hospital

- Phuket Dental Center (the clinic just outside and next to Bangkok Hospital)

- Dent Central (the clinic on the 2nd floor, Central Plaza)

------

Which of these places would you all recommend? Or is there another that is an expert with Dental Surgery? (and I do mean surgery, this will involve a lot of cutting)

I must admit, I'm scared of Mission Hospital. The place is always crowded, always chaotic, and seems both dirtier and less professional than Bangkok Hospital. I'm also a little nervous about a clinic. So, I'm leaning toward Bangkok Hospital.

Are there any better recommendations?

Just a thought folks , I am allergic to dental anesthetics, for example Xylocaine, its allways worth the extra 1500baht to book an acupuncturist to have an absolutely painless day at the dentist, had many extractions this way never feel a thing and there is very rarely need for painkilling medication afterwards, :o Nignoy
