What's That Building?

Every time I drive to the Laos Consulate in KK, I pass this seriously large, abandoned building that's about 100m West of the consulate on the other side of the main road (209 to Kalasin). It looks like work was stopped about half-way through construction; either the money ran out or someone's just sitting on the land, I don't know. But what was it going to be? It's a big site and the main building has to be about 15 or 20 floors. Hotel?

Just wondered...

Yeah, hotel. Victim of the 97 crash. NPL I'd guess, but surprising nobody else took up the project later on, as 70 % finished or so. Maybe somebody else knows the history of the place and who was developing it? :o

Yeah, that makes sense. It looks as if work stopped a fair while ago but, as you say, it's over half completed so am a bit surprised work didn't resume. But then, does KK actually need another hotel? There's another abandoned building right opposite the Kosa. I'd always assumed that was a hotel, too.

97 mistake. Took down about 10 major investors, 2 of whom apparently committed suicide because of the losses. All in all a terrible shame. The large one in the centre of town was meant to be offices. Probably unsalvageable after 10 years of wear and tear. Will take a very brave investor or an amazingly clever demolition team to get rid of it.

Yep, I'd like to see that one get blown up. It couldn't be more hemmed-in. It'll probably just stay there as a monument to '97. Or until KK has some sort of property boom and prices go through the roof. It would probably be cheaper to finish the job than demolish it. Imagine the insurance attached to any demolition of that one. :o

Are there any? Ok, I've never looked for any but are there? Also, unless it had underground parking, the site has been so developed in the intervening years that there would be nowhere for the residents to park.
