Bangkok Hotel - Near Grand-palace

Featured Replies

Hello from a cold and wet London!

I am in LOS for Songkran - wahay!!

My GF's parents are from Utalladit and Kampaengphet. Her children and parents have never been to Bangkok so we're going to spend a a few days there and see the main tourists spots; grand palace, wat po, reclining buddha etc (the heat and humidity is going to kill me!)

So, last time my GF and I stayed at a hotel near KaoSan Road last time but for the life of me I can't remember the name of the hotel. I am sure it began with a V...perhaps VienThai or something like that?

Can anyone recommend a hotel.. reasonably priced, friendly and near to the toursist spots that I mentioned above? I need to try and book it over the telephone or on-line as my GF's family are going there at lunchtime whereas I will be arriving in LOS in the evening. Oh, the family won't be used to the bright lights and hustle and bustle of bangkok nevermind a westernised hotel so the hotel needs to be Thai-friendly. I've heard that some hotels are not Thai friendly.. is this true?

Any help appreciated.

ViengThai Hotel, Soi Rambuttri.

If you stay there at songkran you will be in the middle of a giant water fight everyday, I would look for somewhere else if I was you.

Cool thanks.. yeah, I had pretty much resigned myself to the fact that we were going to get soaked wherever we went. The actual dates are 12-13th April.

If anyone knows of any "quiet", Thai friendly hotels for these particular nights...?

Cheers

Not in That area :o

There are some great ptions in Chinatown etc .. a few really awesome boutique style hotels. The ViengThai is a nice enough place and has all the amenities. It is pricey enough to keep the poverty packers out and is Thai friendly. If I were you I'd book there and do it now :D Arrange through them for a car to the Grand Palace etc and you may avoid getting soaked.
