Happy Easter everybody, but i havent seen any chocolate eggs anywhere, dont Thais celebrate Easter?

You do realize Easter is traditionally a Christian holiday right? It's not as commercialized/globalized as Christmas, so you probably are not going to find much for Easter.

Agreed - Easter is not known where i live - in fact when i first came to live in our village in Buri Ram 5 years ago they did not know about Christmas.

That has changed but only because we have a Christmas tree with lights and coloured baubles on our front verandah at Christmas and on Christmas day we invite all the villlage kids in and give them a good meal and some sweets and balloons then they go crazy playing on our front lawn until they wear themselves out. Now in December they start asking when is the Christmas party.

By the way talking about Christians i saw a huge bannner in our locaL town (Lam Plai mat) promoting a "Born again Christian" rally near Phanum Rung I think next month and my wife tells me that pickups often drive through the village asking people to attend the local Christian church in town. I guess there must be some Christians around but i haven't seen Xmas or easter promoted to any extent in this part of the world. :o

I suppose the reason i asked about Easter was the aftermath of Xmas, For the last 2 years, Makro,Tesco-Lotus and Charonsei complex in Udon have {even more so this last xmas } very big displays of trees decos crackers lights ect, and that tells me christianity has a foothold here, {or lots of falangs? } useually, easter eggs are a follow-up to Xmas, I havent been shopping in Udon for 3 weeks so perhaps i missed them?

Next time i go to UK might bring back a case of Kinder eggs, im sure the kids here would love them,,

Thanks All, Lickey,,

I think my previous post came out wrong. Didn't mean to sound sarcastic. I remember last year around this time I posted on TV prior to a trip to Thailand. Was asking if there were any restaurants in Bangkok that might serve a traditional Easter dinner as I thought it would be nice as I would be there for Easter. I got a response from a "nice" English gentleman basically ripping me a new one stating I was a "typical American" expecting Thailand to be like America. Funny though that months prior there were posts on where to find places that were doing traditional Christmas dinners etc.

It tells me more about mass consumerism having a foothold there, than it does about Christianity.

Same, same the celebration of Saint Valentine's Day. :o

The fact that Easter is not "celebrated" is purely because it is slightly harder to commericalise the festival, as Thailand doesn't have a Spring in late March, early summer and the main "commercialised" product in the West is chocolate eggs and bunnies - bit tricky selling those to the masses when they melt in about 5 secs flat in the heat at this time of year. However, given a few more years and I'm sure the marketers will have found a way to flog it in Thailand. Maybe selling those fluffy little chicks inside eggs or narak bunnies to take home (for eating or pets, UP2U).

See, bugger all to do with Christianity. :D
